Somehow, I managed to get quite a few books in December and only 2 of them were Christmas gifts. Though, three did come in book boxes…the rest were books that had been on my “to-buy” list for a while and with a bit of Christmas money – i.e. Amazon gift cards – I decided to splurge and treat myself.
It’s the holidays, so why the hell not.
Sometimes you just have to buy that book that’s been on your list for forever because to not do so would be a crime…I also just wanted to support the authors. I’m pretty excited for the books I hauled that I actually haven’t read yet, and a few of them I’m hoping to get to this month, or next…mainly just hopefully soon.
With that being said, let’s jump in and see what I hauled in December!
Unrest (Unknown #2) – Wendy Higgins
In the midst of unrest, their worlds are rocked again when they discover the truth about the war that’s ruined their lives. They thought finding out the enemy’s identity would give them the edge; instead it’s revealed terrifying dangers they never thought possible.
I legitimately ordered this upon finishing Unknown and I hated the fact that I didn’t already own it. I really want to read this right now, but I have 2 January ARCs I need to read before I’m letting myself pick up anything else.
Failed Future (Air Awakens: Vortex Chronicles #3) – Elise Kova
The only path for Vi is forward. But she doesn’t yet know if she’s running toward salvation… or a brutal end to everything she loves.
I’ve already read this – was given an eARC of it by Elise and I hadn’t yet bought it. I kept holding out for someone to get it, and Sovereign Sacrfice for me, for Christmas, but that didn’t happen. So, I bought it and SS for myself. They look really nice on my shelf next to all the other books in the Air Awakens world.
Sovereign Sacrifice (Air Awakens: Vortex Chronicles #4) – Elise Kova
Old loves and new allies tell her to play it safe. But Vi is done with caution. She has a chance to right ancient wrongs and this princess-turned-warrior isn’t turning back.

A Court of Thorns and Roses Special Edition – Sarah J. Maas

This edition is stunning. I knew I needed it when they announced it and I kind of forced my brother into getting it for me for Christmas. He did, and I love it. I can’t wait to eventually reread the books, and I’m definitely starting with this edition. I hope the other books in the series are eventually made. I want them all.
Wicked as You Wish (A Hundred Names for Magic #1) – Rin Chupeco
…And with the rise of dangerous spelltech in the Royal States of America; the appearance of the firebird, Avalon’s deadliest weapon, at her doorstep; and the re-emergence of the Snow Queen, powerful but long thought dead, who wants nothing more than to take the firebird’s magic for her own – Tala’s life is about to get even more complicated….
This is honestly a bit low on my list of books to read. It was a bonus in the December FairyLoot box (which I only got to be able to buy another book). It sounds interesting enough and I’m definitely willing to give it a try.
Eight Will Fall – Sarah Harian

This wasn’t on my radar at all, until I started looking at what the December FairyLoot book might be. This sounds really interesting and potentially like something I’d like, but for now, it’s really low on my “read” list. Eventually I’ll get to it.
The Guinevere Deception (Camelot Rising #1) – Kiersten White
Deadly jousts, duplicitous knights, and forbidden romances are nothing compared to the greatest threat of all: the girl with the long black hair, riding on horseback through the dark woods toward Arthur. Because when your whole existence is a lie, how can you trust even yourself?
I read an ARC of this and it was the December OwlCrate book, so I got it. I enjoyed the book, but also kind of didn’t get the hype. I’m a definitely fan of Arthurian Legend retellings and this wasn’t a disappointing read, I guess I just expected more. Kiersten White is always hit or miss with me.
Sisters of Shadow and Light (Sisters of Shadow and Light #1) – Sara B. Larson
For fifteen years they have lived, trapped in the citadel, with little contact from the outside world…until the day a stranger passes through the hedge, and everything changes.
I loved this book. I’ve been a Sara B. Larson fan since Defy and I honestly didn’t expect to love this book so much, but I did. I flew through it and I’m so anxious for the next one, to find out what happens next. I need to know.
Of Silver & Shadow – Jennifer Gruenke
But time is running out for all of them, including the youngest Prince of Erdis, who finds himself pulled into the rebellion. Political tensions have reached a boiling point, and Ren and the rebels must take the throne before war breaks out.
I requested this on Netgalley on a whim, kind of because I loved the cover, and was super surprised when I was approved almost immediately.
Lanterns in the Sky – P.S. Malcolm
Everything was normal for Lucy Maisfer until the day a star fell from the sky and knocked her out. Upon waking, she comes face-to-face with Jason Woods, who also happens to be the mysterious new guy in her best friend, Valarie’s, life.

Driven to uncover the meaning of it, she finds herself caught up in a strange twist of events that eventually lead to bigger danger than she ever anticipated. This was another one I requested on a whim. I thought it looked pretty and sounded interesting, so I clicked, and then the email came in that I’d been approved, and my list on Netgalley grew one book longer. I need to stop “whim requesting”. It’s going to wreck my rating.
Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire Illustrated Edition – J.K. Rowling
Harry Potter is midway through his training as a wizard and his coming of age. Harry wants to get away from the pernicious Dursleys and go to the International Quidditch Cup. He wants to find out about the mysterious event that’s supposed to take place at Hogwarts this year, an event involving two other rival schools of magic, and a competition that hasn’t happened for a hundred years. He wants to be a normal, fourteen-year-old wizard. But unfortunately for Harry Potter, he’s not normal – even by wizarding standards. And in his case, different can be deadly.
