ApollyCon 2020 + Giveaway

**Just a reminder: If you want to be entered to win one of the 4 bags or if you’re an International Reader, you NEED to enter and do the tasks via the Rafflecopter. If you do the tasks and don’t track them in the Rafflecopter, you won’t be counted as a possible winner. I just wanted to put a heads up, since what I’m seeing isn’t being reflected in the Rafflecopter entries. I want you to win these items!

When I sat down in February and started to think about planning March’s and April’s posts, I didn’t expect to not be going to book events. So, this post is going to be vastly different than what I had thought it was going to be.

I’m sure you haven’t been living under a rock, but in the case that you have, ApollyCon was cancelled (just like every other large gathering) due to COVID-19 in order to try and slow the spread of this virus.

While it’s completely logical and understandable as to why Jen ultimately cancelled the event, it’s still a bummer. I know the decisions she had to make were hard and beyond her control and I know that if she had any other options, she wouldn’t have canceled.

I know myself, and others were really looking forward to the event. It’s one of my favorite bookish events that I go to. I was so excited to take a friend for her first time, and unfortunately the world had other plans.

Even though ApollyCon wasn’t a physical event this year, Jen and her team did everything they could to still guarantee swag bag deliveries, and a virtual component. ApollyCon went virtual with Author Livestreams, giveaways and all sort of other events. Virtual Signing orders were filled out and shipped, vendors offered discounts and shipping on items, author’s offered signed bookplates, and swag bags were still mailed out to everyone who had purchased a qualifying ticket.

While, ApollyCon didn’t happen the way it had in past years, I applaud Jen and her team for working around the clock to make anything happen. It’s beyond impressive what they were able to pull together in such a limited amount of time.

I can only hope that ApollyCon is back in full swing come 2021. I understand Jen’s apprehension to announce it too early, because who knows what’s going to happen, but my fingers are crossed that this time next year, we will have found normal again.

Now, onto the Giveaway portion of this post.

This Giveaway is split between my blog Writing the Universe and my friend Sammy’s blog, Lady and Star. We each will post 2 of the 4 ApollyCon Bags. These bags are what were included with the purchase of a Titan ticket for the event, plus extra books and book box swag. These bags are packed completely full of books and bookish items. Each bag is a mix of genres, fandoms and items. Each bag is different but may share similar/same items.

4 winners will be chosen, but you do not get to choose your bag.

There is a list of 10 things you can do to enter this giveaway, 5 of them are mandatory, the other 5 are bonuses – giving you a possibility for 10 total entries.

This Giveaway is going to run from April 6, 2020 8 AM EST, to April 27, 2020 12:00 AM EST. Winners will be announced April 29, and notified via email with a Google Doc to fill out.

***Due to circumstances surrounding COVID -19 and various forms of Stay At Home Directives in place, we will notify you when we are able to ship. Of course, we will do our best to get them out as soon as possible after announcing the winners.

We will be checking, and you will be blocked from any future giveaways.

For the 4 ApollyCon 2020 Bags

img_8651Bags contain a mix of ApollyCon 2020 books and swag, plus a variety of ARCs and Book Box swag. Each bag is different, but there may be some similarities.

– Must be a continental US resident with a US mailing address

– Must be 18+ or have a parent’s permission

All the items will be shipped in a Large Flat Rate USPS box.

I wanted to include an international portion to this giveaway, because I always feel bad when I can’t. While I can’t afford to send boxes full of books and swag internationally right now, I still wanted to give the opportunity for international readers to participate. Since this giveaway is due in part to ApollyCon, I wanted to keep it in theme. Also, since Jen just surprised released a new book at the end of March, I wanted to give people the chance to acquire it.

Sammy and I are thrilled to be hosting this, and we hope you enter! I’m so excited about the sheer amount of stuff we’re including (and quite impressed I was able to fit each bag + contents into one box).

**If/when you head over to Sammy’s blog, you’re going to see a lot of the same information. Know that it doesn’t mean double, the Rafflecopter’s are the same, with all of the same tasks. It does not matter which link you click on, or who’s blog you access it from.

Good luck to everyone who enters!

    1. Aw thanks and you rock for entering! Ooo, Roth. Yes, I’m totally behind the love for the The Dark Elements series. So good. Have you read Storm and Fury yet? Reading it prompted my reread of The Dark Elements and I don’t regret it, and I’m super excited for Rage and Ruin. Thanks for entering and I hope you win!

    1. Me too! I hope that we find normal again and it happens. It’s like the one big book event I go to each year that doesn’t break my bank account (since I’m local) and it’s really the only event I ever see Jen at, so I get to do a little catching up with her. It’s also just an incredibly fun event. I love The Dead List, and this new cover is definitely gorgeous. If AC 2021 happens, I wonder what that book will be? Thanks for entering, and I hope you win!

    1. Aw! You’re welcome! I’m glad we’re doing this giveaway. The morale boost with everything going on seems like it’s a good thing.
Shockingly, I haven’t actually read that one yet! i know, it’s shameful. I really need to fix that.🙈
Thanks for entering, and I hope you win!

  1. Thank you so much for the amazing giveaway and chance to enter! One of my top favorite Jennifer L. Armentrout books is Wicked! It was actually the first book of her’s I read. The COVID-19 mess has interrupted so much! Right now, we should be planning to attend Finals in FL with our daughter’s cheerabilities competitive cheer team! We attended NCA Nationals a month ago, they were going to Finals for the first time 😦 now the season is over.

    1. Aw you’re welcome! I know so many people were super bummed about not being able to go and my friend and I figured, why not do a giveaway. Help boost morale when people need it the most. I love the Wicked trilogy, definitely a favorite. I love Tink. I’d recommend just about anything and everything Jen writes, it’s all so good and so enjoyable.
Oof, that’s so unfortunate and I’m sorry you’re missing out and I’m sorry your daughter can’t compete. That’s rough, to see something you’ve worked hard for, be ripped from you. COVID has definitely thrown a wrench into everything and it sucks. Even if it’s for the health and benefit for humanity, it still just sucks.
I hope you and your family are staying safe and not getting too stir crazy! Thanks again for entering and I hope you win!

    1. Obsidian is a great book! It was my first JLA book as well! I wanted to read Half-Blood first, but my friend wanted to read Obsidian first, and wanted us to read the same book at the same time. lol
