This post isn’t about books that I regret buying the whole series of, and then want to get rid of because they’ve been on my shelves for so long. This post is for those books that I’m actually ashamed I haven’t finished yet (and/or started) and that I DO want to read.

This is a judgment free zone, but feel free to urge me to read these. I’ve been on a backlist kick, so get in my comments and insist that I read some of these books. It’s honestly about damn time, and I can’t tell you why I haven’t yet. I just haven’t and that’s a shit excuse.

I also want to clarify, before we jump into this –

1) these series have at least 3 books (or more)

2) I have to own at least 2 books in the series

3) there is going to be a running theme of “idk why I haven’t finished this series”

4) these aren’t the be all end all of series I own but haven’t read…there are more.

Percy Jackson and the Olympians / The Heroes of Olympus

 Yeah, we’re starting off strong. Honestly, this is the one I’m probably most ashamed about. I legit own all of the books, the first 5, plus the second set. I legit bought The Heroes of Olympus books as they released! They’ve just sat on my shelves for years. Okay, I did read books 1-4 of the original series, but it’s been so long, I’d probably need to reread them in order to continue on. Which, I’m all for Greek Mythology, so I really cannot tell you why I haven’t read these books yet. It’s stupid to feel like “it’s too late”, but I guess that’s kind of how I feel. Someone make me read these books. Please. I want to be ready and informed before the Disney+ show.

The Secrets of the Immortal Nicholas Flamel

We’re throwing it back with this series. I’m pretty sure I still have a bookmark in the middle of book 3? I don’t quite remember. I loved this series when I was younger, and maybe the reason I never finished them was because I aged out? Again, stupid reason. I own the whole set, because the hardcovers are freaking gorgeous. I mean, honestly, I love them. One day (maybe) I would like to finish the series…though, it’s been even longer than PJO, so a reread will definitely be needed.

Falling Kingdoms

I own quite a few books in this series, but since I bought most of them on sale when I could find them, they’re not necessarily consecutive. I think I own books 1, 3, 5 plus two from the spin off, or something. I don’t honestly know. My friend loved this series, and I’ve heard good things, I just can’t tell you why I haven’t picked them up yet. This is one of two series on this list, that I haven’t actually read any books in the series, so I really have no idea what I’m missing. Convince me.

The Program

I’ve read the first 3 books and freaking loved them. Explain to me why I haven’t finished the last 3 books in this series. I remember picking up The Program in Barnes and Noble years ago, because it looked so starkly different than anything else on the shelf. Can we hit pause in publishing, so I can seriously make a dent in my backlist titles?

Don’t @ me. I have no excuses. I know people love these books. I kept telling myself that I would finally read the series once I had all the books…okay, so I have 1 excuse. But I still don’t have the last two books, so I haven’t started the series yet.

I’m behind on everything. I’m also a giant hypocrite. I complain that there isn’t enough SF in YA and then buy but ignore the SF that’s in YA. What Is Wrong With Me? I loved Illuminae, thought it was brilliant and fantastic and immediately went out and bought book 2. Now it just sits on my shelf.

The Young Elites

I loved the first book in this trilogy. Loved it, desperately wanted the rest of the series when I read it. Now I own the whole series, plus Marie’s other books, and they all just sit there because I’m terrible at reading backlist books. This is why I’ve been trying to read more. I just need to sit down, put them all on my TBR and binge the crap out of them. Remind me. Please.

An Ember in the Ashes

Other than PJO, this one might be my biggest shame. I read books 1-2 and loved, loved, loved them. But it’s been while, and with book 4 due out this year, I’m now just waiting for its release so I can binge the whole series start to finish, and rip out my heart. I wish I’d kept up with it as the books release, but alas I didn’t and so Im just saving up my heartbreak which will undoubtedly come in a few months.

Please comment down below and keep me accountable for reading at least some of these dang series. I’m more than happy to buddy read – though if I get hooked, I make no promises of not reading ahead. Maybe that’s what I need thought, an accountabili-buddy to keep me on track! (Idk if I spelt that right, but you get it…hopefully). I do have every intention of reading these books, though some are more pressing than others. I hope to one day have all my owned books read. I don’t know if that’s a pipe dream with the constant release of new and amazing books, but I’m trying!
