“Elves, dwarves, humans… Jödmun; you mortal races are all the same, little more than ants crawling on a round table, oblivious to those sitting around it.”

It has been centuries since the Mountain Birth, a magical calamity that turned the Jödmun from men into… something else.
Part curse, part blessing, the Jödmun need neither food nor shelter, living as veritable stone men. One among them, Ürbon the Wanderer, will emerge from his people’s centuries-long isolation.

A chance encounter with an unusually violent elvish people leaves Ürbon without a ship, without his men, and without direction, changing the course of his life forever. In a journey across the vast world of Faladon; from the sandy Savarrah desert to the lush Forgotten Isles, the Human Kingdom of Ravenburg to the bustling port-city of Venova, Ürbon will gather to him unlikely friends and dangerous enemies, each seeking a weakness in his stony flesh. This is his tale. Continue reading “DNF Book Review: Journeys Through Faladon: The Titan Divide”

Webtoon Recs!

As if you needed another app to occupy asinine amounts of time…but I promise this one is well worth it.

Webtoon is a free app you can download for your phone or other mobile device. Once you log in, creating a free account, you can read and binge all sorts of amazing webcomics that legit leave you wanting more.

img_0160

I first found out about Webtoon, when Lore Olympus first started popping up on my Twitter feed – so I think, about two/two and a half years ago. Like most people who discover Lore Olympus, I binged what was available and then spiraled into this desperate need for more. From there, I branched out and started reading all sorts of comics.

While my list of comics I read is very long, this post is just going to be a handful of favorites! These are definitely comics that I stay * regularly * up to date with. I usually binge all available episodes, and then won’t touch the app for a while. That way when I finally decide to open it again, I have plenty of episodes to binge. It’s probably not the healthiest of ways to consume these stories, because I’m always left with that desperate need for more, but it works for me!

But without further ado, let’s jump into these recs, and I promise you won’t be disappointed!

Book Review: Rage and Ruin (The Harbinger #2)

rage and ruinTitle: Rage and Ruin

Author: Jennifer L. Armentrout

Pub. Date: June 9, 2020

Rating: ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Half-angel Trinity and her bonded gargoyle protector, Zayne, have been working with demons to stop the apocalypse while avoiding falling in love. The Harbinger is coming…but who or what is it? All of humankind may fall if Trinity and Zayne can’t win the race against time as dark forces gather.

As tensions rise, they must stay close together and patrol the DC streets at night, seeking signs of the Harbinger, an entity that is killing Wardens and demons with no seeming rhyme or reason. Forbidden to be with each other, Zayne and Trinity fight their feelings and turn to unusual sources for help—the demon Roth and his cohorts. But as deaths pile up and they uncover a sinister plot involving the local high school and endangering someone dear to Zayne, Trin realizes she is being led…herded…played for some unknown end. As anger builds and feelings spiral out of control, it becomes clear that rage may be the ruin of them all.

This will be a spoiler free review. I listened to the Audible Audiobook.

It’s been maybe 10 hours since I finished listening to this book while at work, and holy crap I’m still not over the ending.

Like, at all.

The last few chapters the hits just kept coming, and then there was that final scene, that final reveal that left me desperate for book 3.

I mean, what the frick?

La biosthetique GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

There’s just something about books that pit Heaven and Hell against each other, in a battle for biblical end times that I love. Freaking give me those fallen angel/arch ngel confrontations and a scheme to create hell on Earth.

I. Am. Here. For. It.

I really enjoyed Storm and Fury when I read it last year – you can check out my review here – but this one had everything. Zayne and Trinity’s relationship was so enjoyable and so much fun to experience, even when things weren’t so great between them. Their chemistry is just So Good.

Jen is the Queen at writing attractive guys, and omfg Zayne doesn’t disappoint.

I want myself a Zayne.

He’s just so good, so sweet, so caring, so incredibly thoughtful. And he tends to have an infinite amount of patience.

I just freaking loved him in this book.

I also really loved Trinity. She’s so antagonistic, just to be antagonistic.

She does a lot of growing and accepting in this book, but true to teenage/young adult form the things she says, or doesn’t say get her into hot water. Navigating the world, minus angelic powers and a Harbinger bringing about the end times is hard enough, so it stands to reason that Trinity has it rough.

So much happens in this book, it never stops. I’m really liking what Jen is doing with this world she created. I loved the White Hot Kiss series and that world, but this current one…it feels so deep and rich and alive.

That could be in part due to the audiobook – which I highly recommend. It legit comes straight to life in your mind. Though, I will say that how the narrator was reading Roth, wasn’t really how I hear him in my head, but still so good. She got Zayne and Trinity’s personalities chemistry on point, and it honestly felt like a movie was playing out in my mind, with a whole cast of actors.

I love the deepening development of the world, and the forces at play. I loved how Trinity masks her hurt and insecurities and fear, until she found release. That moment when the damn broke for her…it was so satisfying.

Her relationship with Zayne was so good. I know I’ve already said that, but it just was. Yes, they both made mistakes, and said some shitty things to one another, but no relationship is perfect. I’m not excusing some of the things they said to each other, because there were a few moments I wanted to smack Zayne…hard, same with Trinity.

There was a moment that Zayne said something hurtful, and made Trinity feel like her worst nightmare had come to life and just made her feel horrible and I wanted to punch him. My breath caught and I felt so sad for her. Out of context it sounds awful, and even in context it wasn’t good, but people tend to say things they don’t truly mean when they’re intensely angry and hurt and when everything seems unfair.

But they were always able to move past, because there are things more important than past words. The fact that they learn to communicate and try to reconcile says so much. I can also understand saying things in the heat of the moment due to intense anger, and realizing that “oops, my bad” but still being angry, and now feeling guilt due to the anger, and not wanting to be the first to apologize can make situations worse. When you have no experience with some things, it can be hard to realize that you’re in the wrong, or that you misunderstood, or that maybe there was a better way to handle things.

So, when that damn breaks…it was just so satisfying, and the scene was adorable. I’d probably react in very similar way if a guy did something that sweet for me.

I really liked the role Layla and Roth played in this book. And I really loved that Jen had to remind us that Roth is a Demon. A Crown Prince, bad MoFo Demon. He’s not some bad soul, turned good by love, he’s legit not a good dude. I found myself actually kind of forgetting that Roth hadn’t “turned” good. There are just some things that are more important, but I wouldn’t want to piss him off.

I love that they have a decent role in this series and weren’t relegated to background side characters. I kind of like the Roth and Trinity dynamic, and I really want to see Layla and her be friends, and share stories about Zayne, purely to embarrass him. It’ll be interesting to see how they react to the ending of this book.

Things are really just starting to heat up, the battle for the end times is on the horizon, and it looks like a curve ball (or two) just landed. I’m beyond excited to see what happens next, what the reasoning is for that final scene of the book, and if the *right side* of history is going to win.

Or is hell on Earth going to reign supreme?

Rage and Ruin is out now, and if you haven’t already, I highly recommend picking up this series, as well as the White Hot Kiss books. If you’re a fan of Angels, Demons and Gargoyle protectors, then you’re definitely going to want to check this out.

The TBR Book Tag!

I’m back with another tag that I wasn’t tagged to do, but I’m going to do it anyways!

Read Read The Book GIF - Read ReadTheBook MelissaMcCarthy ...

I found this tag by scrolling through my Reader Feed on WordPress. I stumbled across Kathryn’s post over on KathrynBooksville – I’ll link that here so make sure you go check it out! I liked the tag so much, I knew I was going to do it, that I wanted to do it, so here we are!

Feel free to tag yourselves and do this tag! I’m saying I tag anyone and everyone who wants to do this!

Let’s jump into the questions.

⭐️How do you keep track of your TBR⭐️

I use Goodreads and a journal (or two). This is the first year I’m actually doing the GR Challenge, so I do track everything I read there. But I also have a Reading Log Journal my best friend got me two years ago that I log everything in! I also have a list in my Planner where I track everything.

I also separate my TBR out into smaller more manageable chunks over the course of three months. Doing this, for me, makes my never ending TBR feel more manageable and less suffocating.

⭐️Is your TBR mostly print or eBooks⭐️

Probably mostly print! But I haven’t done a count of my eBooks in quite some time, and I have a bad habit of downloading free books. I’m kind of on an eBook/eARC kick right now, so this current 3-month TBR is primarily eBook/eARC’s.

⭐️How do you determine which book from your TBR to read next⭐️

Usually I have a wide range to choose from when I create my 3-month TBR’s, so I can be a tad picky. I just sort of force myself to get through whatever is on my list, but I have been known to divert off of it to mood read something.

⭐️A Book that’s been on your TBR the longest⭐️

Um, I’m not sure? There are so many, and do I consider what I read when I was in Middle School/High School?

I legitimately cannot think of a book.

Wow.

⭐️A book that you recently added to your TBR⭐️

The Power of Hades by Eliza Raine and Rose Wilson – a fellow blogger was raving about this book on Twitter, so I didn’t hesitate in buying it. I have no regrets and I can’t wait to read it.

⭐️A book that is on your TBR strictly because of its beautiful cover⭐️

The Gilded Wolves by Roshani Chokshi. I got it in an OwlCrate box, and I loved the cover, so much. It felt so magical, but the desire to read the book just never came.

⭐️A book on your TBR that you never plan on actually reading⭐️

Nexus by Sasha Alsberg and Lindsay Cummings. After the mess that was Zenith I don’t know if I want to suffer through book 2 and I regret having ever bought a hardcover.

⭐️An unpublished book on your TBR that you’re excited for⭐️

Ooof, there are so many! But off the top of my head, Blood & Honey, Crush and A Vow so Bold and Deadly. The first two come out this year, and Vow comes out Jan’21. I cannot wait.

⭐️A book on your TBR that basically everyone has read except you⭐️

The whole of the Percy Jackson series. I’m trying to rectify this! It’s so long overdue.

⭐️A book on your TBR that everyone recommends to you⭐️

Percy Jackson. Lol

I can’t tell you how many times I’ve been told that I’m missing out.

⭐️A book on your TBR that you are just dying to read⭐️

Okay, so a book that’s already out, that I’m dying to read is The Boundless by Anna Bright.

One that’s upcoming, Gilded Serpents by Danielle L. Jensen.

I NEED TO KNOW WHAT HAPPENS NEXT.

⭐️The number of books on your Goodreads TBR shelf⭐️

Ooof, this is going to be astronomical because I haven’t culled it in forever, but 503. LOL oh my god. I legit cannot be bothered with the asinine time-consuming method of deleting books off GR shelves. So, they just go out of control.

Let me know if you do this tag! I would love to check out your answers!

Author Spotlight: Christian Cura Pt. 2

48720082. sy475 Christian reached out again, having liked my first post, asking if I would feature him again.

This isn’t going to be a terribly long post, but if you haven’t yet checked out the first Author Spotlight post I did for him and his books, you should go check that out!

I’ll link it here: Author Spotlight: Christian Cura

There you can check out his two books, Dreams of Fire and Dreams of Thunder, along with an excerpt! His books sound pretty interesting and they’re on my TBR!

Okay, now that I know you went and checked out the first post, I did featuring Christian, we can move on!

I’m here today to help spread the word that he has a new website – linked here – so make sure you check it out if you’re interested! It looks like the cover for book 3 is up, along with a synopsis! I also have an Amazon link for Dreams of Fire, I’ll be linking that below, as well as the Goodreads link!

Dreams of Fire

Amazon / Goodreads

Make sure you keep an eye out for Dreams of Thunder coming soon! If you want the synopsis for that, then you’ll have to mosey on over to my first post – if by some weird twist of fate, you haven’t already done so. What are you waiting for? The excerpt for book 2 is really going to grab your interest.

In my first spotlight post I included an excerpt from book 2 – Dreams of Thunder – but today, I have an excerpt from Dreams of Fire that piques my curiosity and kind of makes me want to move it up on my TBR.

blogexcerpt

I hope you all enjoyed that, and if you feel so inclined, make sure you add it to your TBR’s! I’m always down for a good urban fantasy, and after the synopsis I read for book 3, I’m really curious.

As a quick little final note, I just want to thank Christian for reaching out again – glad I could be of help!

Cover Reveal! – A Vow so Bold and Deadly

Something really exciting and highly anticipated by me, and everyone else was revealed over the weekend.

screaming gifs Page 3 | WiffleGif

Now, most of you have probably already seen it, but Brigid is a friend and I feel the need to share it on here as well and help her out. Also, as a fan, I can’t keep my cool about this cover. It’s gorgeous, I love it and I’m so damn excited to read it.

I’ve loved every single cover in this series, and with each new one, it becomes my new favorite. I love all the covers in this series and love how they fit together and how they look together.

I remember talking with Brigid back in January – which feels like a lifetime ago – about what the title was and what color the cover could potentially be.

Y’all I freaked out when Brigid told me the title. Like, legit shivers down my spine due to the excitement and anticipation for whatever is to come next.

I mean…A Vow so Bold and Deadly…it holds so much promise…so much pain. To quote Brigid’s most notable gif –

Evil Girl GIFs | Tenor

Ugh, I cannot wait. January 2021 is so far away, though at the speed 2020 is whizzing by, maybe not so much. I’d kill for a chance to read it early.

Pssst, Brigid, can you hook a friend up? Lol

Needless to say, I’m so not upset with the red. I was really hoping for a burgundy/wine red color, and as you will see (or have seen) I’m not disappointed in the slightest.

With all the teasers leading up to Cursebreakers #3, everyone thought the cover was going to be purple, and while purple would have looked good with the blue and green of books 1 & 2 I cannot wait to see the red with them.

Anyways, let’s get to why you’re all here, and why I’m doing this post! The cover!

Though, one last thing…well two last things before we dive in. If you’re interested, you can check out my reviews for A Curse so Dark and Lonely and A Heart so Fierce and Broken.

Synopsis:

Emberfall is torn between those who believe Rhen is the rightful prince and those who are eager to begin a new era under the true heir, Grey. Grey has agreed to wait two months before attacking Rhen, and in that time, Rhen has sought the assistance of a spy despite Harper’s doubts.

Meanwhile, Lia Mara struggles to rule Syhl Shallow with a gentler hand than her mother. But some of her subjects aren’t happy that Lia Mara has an enchanted prince and magical scraver by her side. As Grey’s deadline draws nearer, Lia Mara is forced to question whether or not she can remain allied to his cause.

Drum roll, please!

I now present to you (two days after it’s early release) the cover for Cursebreakers #3 –

A Vow so Bold and Deadly!

img_0061

Jfc, it’s stunning. It hints at Emberfall’s colors…and the crown! My excitement and curiosity for what Brigid has in store for us knows no bounds. I’ve been dying for this book since finishing Heart last year…oh wow, it’s been a year, or a little over one…

I have no doubt that she’s going to make me fall in love with Grey some more, want to protect Tycho – I really hope he has a kitten – I might want to furiously take Rhen by the shoulders and shake him, then give him a hug, and I really can’t wait to see if there’s a potential for a friendship between Harper and Lia Mara. I’m beyond curious and beyond excited for this book, and I know Brigid isn’t going to disappoint!

If you haven’t already, then you should really go read A Curse so Dark and Lonely and then go read A Heart so Fierce and Broken. You have time to get caught up, so do yourself the favor and get on it! If anything, buy the books for solely how pretty they are and how good they look on a shelf.

Janauary 2021 will be here before we know it, and we’ll be diving back into the world of Emberfall with Rhen, Harper, Grey, Lia Mara and Co.

NetGalley and Edelweiss Update – July’20

Let’s just jump right into this.

Edelweiss hates me. It’s the only explanation I have. I’ve never been approved for anything through them – at least not on this account. Having previously no luck with my first account (minus one approval, but that’s a whole other story), a fellow blogger told me to create an account directly tied to my blog.

I did. Created a blog email and everything.

Still, nothing.

I’m constantly declined.

I honestly don’t know why I even bother at this point. Whenever I’m feeling like a glutton for punishment, I request titles on EW.

I’ve been denied within a handful of hours, but I’ve also had titles pending for almost 200+ days.

Over on NetGalley, I have a much better success rate. I currently have the Golden 80% – 82% to be specific, even though it seems to mean absolutely nothing in terms of approvals. It seems to be just some arbitrary number and holds no weight on whether or not you get approved for titles. I was sitting at an 88% for weeks, and I was in pending limbo.

All of the sudden, NG went on a declining spree, so that was fun to see. Tons of titles that I would have loved to have read, denied.

But let’s take a look at what I’ve been approved for:

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.26.19 AM

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.23.27 AM.png

Denied for:

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.26.47 AM.png

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.26.57 AM.png

Probably forever Pending (I’m looking at you Midnight Lie):

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.23.37 AM.png

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.26.25 AM

And Edelweiss, where hopes go to die:

Screen Shot 2020-07-10 at 1.32.50 AM

As you can see, I’ve been pretty freaking lucky on NetGalley. I’m not sure how, but I’m super grateful. I’m bummed that some of the titles I’m super excited for, were declined, but I guess it happens. I’m also absolutely geeked that I got approved for titles that Edelweiss denied me for. It feels like a giant F U to them. Now, if NetGalley would just approve me for Blood & Honey that would be perfect!

What do your NetGalley and/or Edelweiss accounts look like? Do you have the coveted 80% reviewer rating? Does Edelweiss love you? Let me know! What book do you want to be approved for so badly, that you would sell your soul if that were an option?

I really want Blood & HoneyCrush and A Vow So Bold And Deadly.

Exhaustion Level: 100

You were supposed to have a book review today.

I was supposed to have finished King Maker by Audrey Grey.

Screen Shot 2020-07-08 at 11.43.08 PMI did a poll on Twitter, in an attempt to force me to write a review for 1 of the 3 audiobooks I’ve finished recently – since I didn’t/haven’t finished King Maker. It was a measly tie and not helpful, lol. I did only run it for an hour, so I’m not surprised. But because of the outcome of the poll, I don’t feel inclined, or feel like I have the mental capacity to write a good review.

All of these reviews are coming, so don’t fret! I just want the energy to do them justice, because I loved all three of these books! I want to be awake and present enough to properly convey my thoughts, and that’s not going to happen if I’m falling asleep over my laptop.

Y’all, I’m exhausted.

Like, physically and mentally beat.

It’s taking everything in me to not fall asleep as I’m writing this. As soon as this is scheduled, I’m off to bed, and I’m going to pass tf out.

61520992963__6bf57810-db96-4329-bc95-0b36a577f005I picked up a 3-week stint at my old job to help them out – it’s a screen printing and embroidery shop and I Pad Print the tags into the back of the shirts. I don’t mind the work and I like the people I work with but working there in the summer is brutal. It’s always hot in the shop during the summers. There are two 300°F+ driers that the shirts have to go down, and they heat up the warehouse. It’s also summer in Maryland, which is always humid and brutal. To top it off, we have to wear masks while at work.

I’m very much complaining, because it sucks.

Like, really sucks.

Being in the heat for 8 hours a day, with a mask on is miserable.

It’s also incredibly exhausting.

I get off at 4, come home, shower to get the sweat and fuzz off, and then it’s all I can do to stay awake. I get that we need to wear them, but omfg I want to rip it off my face for every waking moment I’m there. It gets sweaty and fuzzy and disgusting. All of that sits on my face for 8 hours a day and my skin now hates me.

So, do everyone a favor and wear your fucking masks so we can get rid of them sooner.

I’m not the only one who feels this way – everyone I’ve talked to at work, hates them, and paired with the heat, everyone is exhausted and dead when they get home.

img_0030I haven’t read a physical book since June and I probably won’t until I’m not in the shop anymore. I miss physical books, though being back at the shop as reignited my love for audiobooks. I’ve already listened to 3 in the last 6 workdays.

I have zero energy after work so you’re getting this mini life update thing…post…whatever you want to call it. You’ll get a real post tomorrow – a NetGalley and Edelweiss Update – and then my plan is to crank out next week’s posts all over the weekend, so I’m not left the night before, exhausted trying to muster the energy to do them.

I have another week of work, but now that I’m back into audiobooks, leave me some recs for your favorites! I’m curious and as always, constantly looking for new reads!

I’m off to bed now!
