It’s been a hot minute since I’ve done a tag and I’ve always meant to do a shelf tour…so maybe this can be the first step!
Be warned, any photos you may see of my shelves in this post, depict messy shelves because I have no time to do some MUCH NEEDED reorganizing. Not to mention I’m waiting for IKEA to get some more shelves in stock – so that’s why some books are just stacked on the floor…but I’m getting ahead of myself.
I saw Sammy do this tag and I loved her answers, so here I am sharing mine!
Tag was found on We Write At Dawn but original post is from Sajiid @ Books Are My Social Life
Feel free to tag yourselves if you want to give a peek at your shelves and what’s on them!
HOW MANY BOOKSHELVES DO YOU HAVE?
3 standing shelves, but I built a whole bunch of wall shelves due to lack of floor space, so 10? If you count those as individual ones. Plus, I’m planning on getting 3 more! 🙈
HOW MANY BOOKS ARE ON YOUR BOOKSHELVES?
Am I supposed to know the answer to this? I mean, there’s AT LEAST one.
I know at one point (years ago) I tallied the “average” cost (hardcovers = $20, paperbacks = $10) and you don’t want to know the number that, that math resulted in.
HOW DO YOU ORGANIZE YOUR BOOKS?
Author. Though there are instances where authors books are split up. Either it’s for my TBR, or mainly because shelf space is scarce and there are some books over others I want on more prominent display. 🤷🏻♀️
I also have a contemporary/NA section on one shelf – but that’s really my only genre specific section.
WHAT IS THE OLDEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?
Um, I’m not really sure. But I do have my dad’s LOTR set from when he was a teen, plus some of my mom’s classics she read in school. I don’t know if they’re the oldest, but they’re older than anything I’ve bought.
WHAT IS THE NEWEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?
Seven Ways to Kill A King by Melissa Wright – this arrived yesterday and I cannot wait to read it.
WHAT IS THE LONGEST BOOK ON YOUR BOOKSHELF?
Probably Kingdom of Ash, it’s almost 1000 pages. Though, I don’t know if it’s the longest word count wise. It probably is.
WHAT IS THE SHORTEST BOOK ON YOUR SHELF?
I have no idea. The shortest book that I’ve read recently is on my Kindle, so if we count digital shelves, it was like 140some pages.
WHAT IS THE MOST PREDOMINANT GENRE ON YOUR BOOKSHELVES?
Fantasy. I’m a sucker. Then weirdly enough it’s probably contemporary, which I’ve only just fallen back in love with.
HAVE YOU DONE A BOOKSHELF TOUR?
Nope! I keep wanting to, and then I look at the sheer number of books I own, and I chicken out 🙈 I want to though, but I’ll need some serious alone time to get through everything.
USE A RANDOM NUMBER GENERATOR AND TALK ABOUT THE BOOK THAT CORRESPONDS WITH THAT NUMBER.
Um, I guess I’ll just pick a shelf? That seems too random, so I’m going to do what Sammy did and head over to Goodreads. I’m going to pull from my “Read” shelf.
Okay, so I got 114, so that is this book –
Beyond the Shadowed Earth by Joanna Ruth Meyer. I really enjoyed this and you can check out my review here – if you’re interested!
As a bonus, here’s 114 from my “Want to Read” shelf because let’s be real – half the books on my physical shelves haven’t been read 😂
The Dreamcatcher by E.J. Mellow – this is a novella for the Dreamland series, which I have yet to finish. But if you’re curious about the series, you can check out this post!
DO YOU HAVE FAN MERCH OR DECORATIONS ON YOUR BOOKSHELVES?
Some, but mostly – besides books – my shelves are littered with crap. It’s shameful I know! But I’ve been so busy and haven’t had the time!
SHOW US YOUR BOOKSHELVES!
They’re a mess, but here you go! All the empty spaces are from the books that are eventually going to go on the new shelves I’m going to buy when IKEA gets its shit together and gets the Billy Bookcases back in stock
Well, there they are. Please, please don’t judge me too harshly on that last shelf. It’s right in front of my door when I walk into my room, so shit just ends up there. Like, all the shit. To be fair, shit ends up on all my shelves, because when I’m busy and exhausted, I’m beyond lazy to put anything away. But there are my shelves!
I had a lot of fun doing this tag, and I definitely recommend you doing it if you think it looks fun! As I was reading Sammy’s answers, I couldn’t help but to think of my own. If you do, do this tag, feel free to tag me, or comment below so I can check out your posts + answers!
I loved it!! This is such an interesting tag and I really enjoyed reading your answers ☺️ Also, believe me, you’re not the only one with messy book shelves 😅 I used to try to organize my shelves as much as possible, but I just messed them up immediately after so I gave up 😬 Now I only organize them when I have a big haul.

Aw thanks! I’m glad you enjoyed the post and I hope you do it!
I feel better about not being alone LOL I see pristine shelves on Insta (they’re gorgeous) but I’m like, HOW? Where do you put *stuff*
Even once I organize, all the other stuff just goes right back on them, because idk where else it’s gonna go LOL

Yay! I’m so glad you did this tag! And girl, don’t worry, my shelves are just as messy and chaotic right now, especially the ones at my parents house lol

It was really fun! (and quick to do lol)
I’m glad I’m not alone in my chaotic bookshelves.

I am so jealous of your shelves! I used to have 5 bookcases that were each 6 shelves, but I had to move and thus downgrade:( Yours may be a tad cluttered, but they are clearly treasured and I like how you organized your books; they are very nice to look at
I might do this tag if I can get the confidence to show the shelves I have left:)

Thanks!
I do clean/straighten them up when they become a source of stress, but I also feel like the little bit of chaos amidst the books (plus the whole set up of my shelves) is pretty representative of my personality lol
I def recommend doing the tag! I was nervous to show off my shelves because they don’t look as neat or organized as those on instagram, but the reaction to mine have been really encouraging and lovely! Bookworms love to see other bookworms shelves, so I say share them! And let me know if/when you do the tag – I’ll check out the post!
