I know this has technically been out for a while, and then it got a little bit of a makeover, so I’m sure you’ve already seen it. But I’m a big JLA fan and love to hype her books, so here we are. I also just recently reread both From Blood and Ash and A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire and I’m feeling a tad deprived of the world and the characters. My impatience for this book is also through the damn roof, so I’m going to share this cover with you.
Now, if you haven’t yet read From Blood and Ash (and subsequently A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire)
- What are you doing with your life?
- Please pick up book 1 ASAP
No, seriously. If you’ve read JLA’s other books, this one won’t disappoint. If you’re looking for a new vampire read, this one won’t disappoint. If you’re looking for something to fill the high fantasy hole in your heart, this one won’t disappoint. Overall, it just won’t disappoint.
From Blood and Ash is wholly addicting, spicy and Hawke and Poppy are just *chef’s kiss* perfect together. Then if you jump immediately into A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire you absolutely will not be disappointed. Things are taken to the next level – across the board. So many spicy moments – if that’s something that interests you – and the plot is just on point.
Before I show you the cover that you’ve probably already seen, here’s the synopsis for both FBAA and KOFAF. Let’s recap for a moment and show you what you’re missing if you haven’t yet picked up these books.
****SPOILER WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN’T YET READ THE FIRST BOOK, SKIP THE SYNOPSIS FOR A KINGDOM OF FLESH AND FIRE AND THEN ALSO SKIP THE CROWN OF GILDED BONES SYNOPSIS. THEY DO CONTAIN INFORMATION THAT COULD BE SPOILER-Y IF YOU HAVEN’T YET READ THE BOOKS.
From Blood and Ash Synopsis:
Chosen from birth to usher in a new era, Poppy’s life has never been her own. The life of the Maiden is solitary. Never to be touched. Never to be looked upon. Never to be spoken to. Never to experience pleasure. Waiting for the day of her Ascension, she would rather be with the guards, fighting back the evil that took her family, than preparing to be found worthy by the gods. But the choice has never been hers.
The entire kingdom’s future rests on Poppy’s shoulders, something she’s not even quite sure she wants for herself. Because a Maiden has a heart. And a soul. And longing. And when Hawke, a golden-eyed guard honor bound to ensure her Ascension, enters her life, destiny and duty become tangled with desire and need. He incites her anger, makes her question everything she believes in, and tempts her with the forbidden.
Forsaken by the gods and feared by mortals, a fallen kingdom is rising once more, determined to take back what they believe is theirs through violence and vengeance. And as the shadow of those cursed draws closer, the line between what is forbidden and what is right becomes blurred. Poppy is not only on the verge of losing her heart and being found unworthy by the gods, but also her life when every blood-soaked thread that holds her world together begins to unravel.
****SPOILER WARNING: A KINGDOM OF FLESH AND FIRE SYNOPSIS NEXT – READ AT OWN RISK INCASE OF SPOILERS.
A Kingdom of Flesh and Fire Synopsis:
Everything Poppy has ever believed in is a lie, including the man she was falling in love with. Thrust among those who see her as a symbol of a monstrous kingdom, she barely knows who she is without the veil of the Maiden. But what she does know is that nothing is as dangerous to her as him. The Dark One. The Prince of Atlantia. He wants her to fight him, and that’s one order she’s more than happy to obey. He may have taken her, but he will never have her.
Casteel Da’Neer is known by many names and many faces. His lies are as seductive as his touch. His truths as sensual as his bite. Poppy knows better than to trust him. He needs her alive, healthy, and whole to achieve his goals. But he’s the only way for her to get what she wants—to find her brother Ian and see for herself if he has become a soulless Ascended. Working with Casteel instead of against him presents its own risks. He still tempts her with every breath, offering up all she’s ever wanted. Casteel has plans for her. Ones that could expose her to unimaginable pleasure and unfathomable pain. Plans that will force her to look beyond everything she thought she knew about herself—about him. Plans that could bind their lives together in unexpected ways that neither kingdom is prepared for. And she’s far too reckless, too hungry, to resist the temptation.
But unrest has grown in Atlantia as they await the return of their Prince. Whispers of war have become stronger, and Poppy is at the very heart of it all. The King wants to use her to send a message. The Descenters want her dead. The wolven are growing more unpredictable. And as her abilities to feel pain and emotion begin to grow and strengthen, the Atlantians start to fear her. Dark secrets are at play, ones steeped in the blood-drenched sins of two kingdoms that would do anything to keep the truth hidden. But when the earth begins to shake, and the skies start to bleed, it may already be too late.
And now before I show you this amazing cover that I think ties into the other two so damn nicely, here’s the synopsis for The Crown of Gilded Bones:
***SPOILER WARNING: IF YOU HAVEN’T YET READ THE FIRST TWO BOOKS, SKIP THIS SYNOPSIS. IT CONTAINS CONTENT THAT MAY BE SPOILER-Y.
The Crown of Gilded Bones Synopsis:
She’s been the victim and the survivor…
Poppy never dreamed she would find the love she’s found with Prince Casteel. She wants to revel in her happiness but first they must free his brother and find hers. It’s a dangerous mission and one with far-reaching consequences neither dreamed of. Because Poppy is the Chosen, the Blessed. The true ruler of Atlantia. She carries the blood of the King of Gods within her. By right the crown and the kingdom are hers.
The enemy and the warrior…
Poppy has only ever wanted to control her own life, not the lives of others, but now she must choose to either forsake her birthright or seize the gilded crown and become the Queen of Flesh and Fire. But as the kingdoms’ dark sins and blood-drenched secrets finally unravel, a long-forgotten power rises to pose a genuine threat. And they will stop at nothing to ensure that the crown never sits upon Poppy’s head.
A lover and heartmate…
But the greatest threat to them and to Atlantia is what awaits in the far west, where the Queen of Blood and Ash has her own plans, ones she has waited hundreds of years to carry out. Poppy and Casteel must consider the impossible—travel to the Lands of the Gods and wake the King himself. And as shocking secrets and the harshest betrayals come to light, and enemies emerge to threaten everything Poppy and Casteel have fought for, they will discover just how far they are willing to go for their people—and each other.
And now she will become Queen…
God, I’m so excited for this book it’s probably unhealthy. If you’ve been around this blog for awhile, you already know I’m a big JLA fan and she knocked it out of the fucking park with the first two books. I can only imagine with growing anticipation what could possibly happen in this book.
I’m so fucking ready and apprehensive at the same time to find out what happens next.
I hate waiting.
So, without further ado, here is the cover for The Crown of Gilded Bones, the second book in the Blood and Ash series:
*drum roll please*
It’s stunning and I love it. I’m so glad it got a little bit of a makeover. I think it ties in SO nicely with FBAA and KOFAF now. GOD, I have no chill for this book. I need more Cas and Poppy and Kieran. I just need more and waiting for this book might kill me.
Waiting until April 2021 might actually kill me. I just need to know what happens next, especially with how KOFAF ends, because like, wtf was that amazing, jaw dropping ending. I also need to know if a certain scene is going to happen, because omfg it needs to happen. It’s been teased at and now readers need it. I need it.
I hope y’all love the cover and check out the series if you haven’t already! It really is very good and the audiobooks…y’all…you can’t go wrong. At all.
