Currently Reading & Watching #22

It’s been awhile!

I’m slowly crawling my way back into shows and movies, but I’m still reading as much as ever. With working full time and working a job where I can listen to audiobooks for roughly 8 hours a day, I get a lot of reading done. But the great thing about audiobooks, is that they’re a whole production that plays out like a movie in my head – even more so than just reading them.

But I am happy that I’m slowly getting back into shows. I miss being able to turn my mind off and just enjoy something, with no pressure to review it.

So, let’s take a look at what I’m currently reading and watching!

READING:

These Violent Delights (These Violent Delights #1) – Chloe Gong

I’m only about 100 pages into this – I can o not get through a few chapters per night before I pass out. I do think the writing is a tad over descriptive, making it a slower read, but omfg I’m hooked. The flowery writing makes it really easy to picture the world and I love that. I just wish I found it to be a quicker read. I’m also not the biggest fan of Romeo & Juliette, but I cannot wait to see how this plays out!

An Heir Comes to Rise (An Heir Comes to Rise #1) – C.C. Peñaranda

I’ve only *just* started this, but I have a feeling I’m really going to enjoy it!

Aurora Burning (The Aurora Cycle #1) – Amie Kaufman & Jay Kristoff

Fuck me. I’m sunk for this world, these characters. I’m kicking myself for waiting so long to read them. This is Farscape meets Stargate with the magical talents of Kaufman and Kristoff and I love it. Finn is my favorite character, hands down.

WATCHING:

Bridgerton (Netflix)

I just finished this, and while I did enjoy it, I’m also kind of “meh” about it. Hastings is yummy to look at, but he doesn’t doesn’t do much else for me. And I kinda don’t like him and Daphne together – I actually preferred the prince 🙈

I also don’t like who Lady Whistledown turned out to be, our how they handled that reveal.

Overall, enjoyable show, but definitely overhyped. Though, I’m so fucking excited for the Bridgerton Musical brewing over on TikTok.

Falling Skies (HBO Max)

I’ve been wanting to rewatch this for awhile and it’s on HBO Max so I somehow convinced my parents to watch it with me. My dad’s hooked. It’s like The 100 meets the Walking Dead (loosely) and now we watch it almost every night. I’m a sucker for SF shows and this is a good one.

The Flight Attendant (HBO Max)

Probably not something I would’ve chosen for myself, but my dad started watching and you just get sucked in. It’s pretty good and keeps you guessing and entertained.

Fate: The Winx Saga (Netflix)

This is ultimately going to be disappointed, but the younger version of myself who LOVED the animated show and had all the dolls would throat punch me if I didn’t watch it. If it’s better than Riverdale, then it wins.

  1. These Violent Delights is such a good book! I hope you like the ending, I was shocked because I thought the book was a standalone, and I didn’t expect it to end like that.

    1. I’m glad you enjoyed it!
Unfortunately, I’m setting it aside (for now) since I just can’t get into it, and keep setting it down because I feel very “meh” about it. I think i’m going to try the audiobook in the near future and see if that makes a difference.

    1. I’m almost through the show now, and it’s not as bad as I thought it was going to be. I’m pleasantly surprised. But I agree – I wish “Winx” wasn’t tied to it. I would have loved a remake that was true to the cartoon, but everything has to be be dark and edgy. sigh.
