Books That Hit My Radar #16

I have more recs for you!

All three of these books are sitting on my Kindle desperately begging for me to read them. I’m in a very, high fantasy, spicy/steamy mood and I’m really hoping that these all deliver. I totally blame A Court of Silver Flames and A Touch of Darkness for my current reading wants.

Just give me a tragic character dealing with shit terribly, a love interest who may or may not be morally grey, maybe a bit of an asshole, but when they’re fated to be together, no one had better get in their way.

That’s all I want. I just want high fantasy, escapism, with hot supernatural/fantastical beings who are too sexy for their own good.

I’m currently reading Rejected – since a fellow blogger recommended it. I inhaled the first ten chapters and then was annoyed I had to stop to shower. Now I’m trying not to blow through writing this blog post so I can get back to reading.

Taken just sounds like exactly the kind of book I want to get lost in. Fae, a dangerous tournament, magic and what looks like to be enemies to lovers. I just want to pasue life and just read all these books – and there’s a whole series for this, so…

I’ve read quite a bit of Sylvia Mercedes’ books over the last couple months, and I’m lowkey kind of obsessed. The Moonfire Bride is the myth of Hades & Persephone meets Eros & Psyche and in my delving into all books Hades & Persephone – I really want to read this.

So, check these books out, and let me know if you’re adding them to your TBR, or if you’ve already had a chance to read them!

Rejected (Shadow Beast Shifters #1) – Jaymin Eve

My father made a terrible mistake. One I’m left paying for.

As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill the alpha, I’m labeled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt.

When I can’t take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don’t like losing their punching bag. Torin, the alpha’s son, drags me back before my first shift… a shift that will reveal my true mate.

I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

After all, no one ever rejects their true mate, right?
Wrong. Very wrong.

When the wolves attack, my soul screams for vengeance, and somehow I touch the shadow world. Somehow I bring him to our lands.

The Shadow Beast. Our shifter god. The devil himself.

Turns out being rejected by my mate was only the beginning.

Taken (The Coldest Fae #1) – Katerina Martinez

In Arcadia, winter has no heart.

I make magic dresses for a living. I’m not rich or pretty enough to wear them, but I love what I do, working out of my family’s shop on Carnaby Street in London—until the fae show up.

It’s a straight-up kidnapping, and before I know it, I’m brought to this wintry place of cold hearts and beautiful nightmares, but that’s not the worst part.

The worst part is, they think I’m fae, and I’m supposed to participate in some competition against a host of other women who have been training their whole lives for this. The prize? The winner is to marry the Prince.

On the surface that sounds almost like a fairytale, only this competition is brutal and bloody, and the Prince is the jerk that kidnapped me. I can’t get too close to him or he’ll know I’m not fae, and then I’m dead. But I want to get close to him. His body burns with the fire of a cold star, and I’m drawn to him.

I need to fight the pull and survive long enough to find a way out of here, but these winter fae won’t make that easy.

The Moonfire Bride (Of Candlelight and Shadows #1) – Sylvia Mercedes

Hers is a life without magic or romance. Until the night he whispers her name.

For years, Valera has worked weary hours as a seamstress just to keep food on the table. She would give her all to protect her little sister from the cruelties of the world . . . and the tantalizing lure of the fae forest. One day, she fears, the fae will spirit her sister away, and how can Valera hope to stop them?

Then the fae come. Not for her sister . . . but for her.

Trapped in a magnificent palace far from her own world, Valera finds herself the unwilling bride of an enigmatic fae lord. He claims he won’t harm her and vows to return her home after a year and a day if she honors one rule: she must never see his face.

Determined to return to her sister at all costs, Valera struggles to unravel the mystery of her so-called husband. Why does he so desperately need a wife? And why her specifically? Torn between love, duty, and the unexpected freedom she finds in this strange new world, Valera must fight to find her place.

But will a burgeoning passion for the unseen figure in the shadows be her undoing?

    1. I’m almost 100% guaranteed to buy a book based on the cover – especially if they look like any of these LOL
I hope you enjoy Taken! I really hope I can read it soon.

    1. 🙈 Amazon and Goodreads + the occasional bookish ad. But those “if you liked this, try this” sections…they take all my money.
I’m almost done Rejected and while it has it’s flaws, it’s just highly entertaining and bingeable. Is it the best book I’ve ever read? No. But I’m pretty sure I’m going to inhale the series. LOL
