Most Anticipated 2021 – Quarter 3

I honestly don’t understand how we’re already in July, that the year is half over and we’re roughly 6 months out from Christmas and the New Year.

I can’t believe it’s already time for my Quarter 3 Anticipated Reads List – honestly I nearly forgot to do this post. And I’m like 90% certain I left so many books off of it. So many books have been announced (for this year and next) and if they’re not listed on the GR monthly releases lists – I missed them.

But all the books on this list are ones I’m really looking forward to.

So, instead of rambling on, let’s just jump right into it! Continue reading “Most Anticipated 2021 – Quarter 3”

Most Anticipated 2020 – Quarter 4

I have one word.

HOW?

How is it already October? I know 2020 has been one giant freaking time warp but come on.

We’re wrapping up a year of amazing releases – seriously, so many – and yet, we still have 3 months left. I don’t even want to think ahout the sheer amount of money I’ve spent on books this year, but I don’t regret it. If there were ever a year to buy books galore, 2020 is it.

So, here’s my final Quarterly Anticipated Reads list of 2020. Let me know if I left anything off it that you think should be on my radar! I struggled to find Dec release – so either not many exist, or lists just aren’t comprehensive yet.

Continue reading “Most Anticipated 2020 – Quarter 4”

Most Anticipated 2020: Quarter 3

We’re 6 months into 2020, and so many amazing books have already been released and even more amazing books have been announced! My TBR is incredibly long, and it’s only going to keep getting longer.

I do these quarterly posts because when I started looking at 2020’s yearly releases, not everything has been announced in December. Books are constantly announced and a lot of them I’m super anticipating and they deserve to be on a list! There have been plenty of books that have been announced in the last 3 months – since my Most Anticipated 2020: Quarter 2 post – and that’s why I love doing these posts!

If you want to see what I’ve included in all my past 2020 Most Anticipated posts, you can do that here:

2020 Most Anticipated Reads

Most Anticipated 2020: Quarter 1

Most Anticipated 2020: Quarter 2

If there are books that you should think need to be on my radar, let me know in the comments! I’m always looking for new books!

Quarterly Anticipated Releases #3

I’m so happy that I chose to do these Quarterly Release posts, because if you look back at my Anticipated Reads for 2019 post, there are like no books for late summer/fall/winter. But that is also why I chose to these posts. To catch all the books I might’ve missed, or that were announced later in the year. There are sequels included in this post – with their synopses! (Just a heads up)

With that being said, let’s jump into the books that are on my radar for July, August and September. And if I’ve missed any, or didn’t mention something that you loved, or that should be on my radar, let me know in the comments!

JULY:

40517898Queen of Ruin – Tracy Banghart

Pub. Date: July 2, 2019

GR

I still haven’t gotten to the first book in this series, but someone I trust read the first one, and her review tells me that I will, so eventually I’ll get to this sequel. Regardless, this story sounds amazing.

Banished by Asa at the end of Grace and Fury, Nomi and Malachi find themselves powerless and headed towards their all-but-certain deaths. Now that Asa sits on the throne, he will stop at nothing to make sure Malachi never sets foot in the palace again. Their only hope is to find Nomi’s sister, Serina, on the prison island of Mount Ruin. But when Nomi and Malachi arrive, it is not the island of conquered, broken women that they expected. It is an island in the grip of revolution, and Serina–polite, submissive Serina–is its leader.

Betrayal, grief, and violence have changed both sisters, and the women of Mount Ruin have their sights set on revenge beyond the confines of their island prison. They plan to sweep across the entire kingdom, issuing in a new age of freedom for all. But first they’ll have to get rid of Asa, and only Nomi knows how.

Separated once again, this time by choice, Nomi and Serina must forge their own paths as they aim to tear down the world they know, and build something better in its place.

Once they were twelve, but loneliness fills the grand halls now that four of the girls’ lives have been cut short. Her sisters have been sneaking out every night to attend glittering balls, dancing until dawn in silk gowns and shimmering slippers, and Annaleigh isn’t sure whether to try to stop them or to join their forbidden trysts. SEPTEMBER:

40024139Serpent & Dove – Shelby Mahurin

Pub. Date: September 3, 2019

GR

Based off the synopsis alone, this sounds amazing. I can’t wait to read it and hopefully fall in love. It’s a thick book and I’ve heard some good things!

Bound as one to love, honor, or burn.

Two years ago, Louise le Blanc fled her coven and took shelter in the city of Cesarine, forsaking all magic and living off whatever she could steal. There, witches like Lou are hunted. They are feared. And they are burned.

Sworn to the Church as a Chasseur, Reid Diggory has lived his life by one principle: thou shalt not suffer a witch to live. His path was never meant to cross with Lou’s, but a wicked stunt forces them into an impossible union—holy matrimony.

The war between witches and Church is an ancient one, and Lou’s most dangerous enemies bring a fate worse than fire. Unable to ignore her growing feelings, yet powerless to change what she is, a choice must be made.

And love makes fools of us all.

42867937The Girl the Sea Gave Back – Adrienne Young

Pub. Date: September 3, 2019

GR

I have an eARC of this and once I finish my current read, I think I’m going to dive into this next. I can usually get through eBooks relatively quickly, so I’ll probably knock this one out, plus the other eARC I have.

For as long as she can remember, Tova has lived among the Svell, the people who found her washed ashore as a child and use her for her gift as a Truthtongue. Her own home and clan are long-faded memories, but the sacred symbols and staves inked over every inch of her skin mark her as one who can cast the rune stones and see into the future. She has found a fragile place among those who fear her, but when two clans to the east bury their age-old blood feud and join together as one, her world is dangerously close to collapse.

For the first time in generations, the leaders of the Svell are divided. Should they maintain peace or go to war with the allied clans to protect their newfound power? And when their chieftain looks to Tova to cast the stones, she sets into motion a series of events that will not only change the landscape of the mainland forever but will give her something she believed she could never have again—a home.

43744300American Royals – Katharine McGee

Pub. Date: September 3, 2019

GR

I have a copy of this and I’m so excited! I’m definitely reading this soon and I cannot wait! I read The Thousandth Floor when it came out and loved it (didn’t know it was part of a trilogy) and so I’m excited to see what in store for me with this new book.

Two princesses vying for the ultimate crown.
Two girls vying for the prince’s heart.
This is the story of the American royals.

When America won the Revolutionary War, its people offered General George Washington a crown. Two and a half centuries later, the House of Washington still sits on the throne. Like most royal families, the Washingtons have an heir and a spare. A future monarch and a backup battery. Each child knows exactly what is expected of them. But these aren’t just any royals. They’re American. And their country was born of rebellion.

As Princess Beatrice gets closer to becoming America’s first queen regnant, the duty she has embraced her entire life suddenly feels stifling. Nobody cares about the spare except when she’s breaking the rules, so Princess Samantha doesn’t care much about anything, either . . . except the one boy who is distinctly off-limits to her. And then there’s Samantha’s twin, Prince Jefferson. If he’d been born a generation earlier, he would have stood first in line for the throne, but the new laws of succession make him third. Most of America adores their devastatingly handsome prince . . . but two very different girls are vying to capture his heart.

The duty. The intrigue. The Crown. New York Times bestselling author Katharine McGee imagines an alternate version of the modern world, one where the glittering age of monarchies has not yet faded–and where love is still powerful enough to change the course of history.

The synopsis sold me on this as did the cover and it just sounds completely amazing and I can’t wait to get my hands on it and read it!

Some legends never die…

Traveling with her treasure-hunting father has always been a dream for Theodora. She’s read every book in his library, has an impressive knowledge of the world’s most sought-after relics, and has all the ambition in the world. What she doesn’t have is her father’s permission. That honor goes to her father’s nineteen-year-old protégé—and once-upon-a-time love of Theodora’s life—Huck Gallagher, while Theodora is left to sit alone in her hotel in Istanbul.

Until Huck arrives from an expedition without her father and enlists Theodora’s help in rescuing him. Armed with her father’s travel journal, the reluctant duo learns that her father had been digging up information on a legendary and magical ring that once belonged to Vlad the Impaler—more widely known as Dracula—and that it just might be the key to finding him.

Journeying into Romania, Theodora and Huck embark on a captivating adventure through Gothic villages and dark castles in the misty Carpathian Mountains to recover the notorious ring. But they aren’t the only ones who are searching for it. A secretive and dangerous occult society with a powerful link to Vlad the Impaler himself is hunting for it, too. And they will go to any lengths—including murder—to possess it.

When I heard about this book coming out, saw the cover, read the synopsis I knew I was going to read it. Then I went out and bought her other book The Light Between Worlds…and I still haven’t read it. LOL Regardless, I have a copy of this, and I can’t wait to read it!

Violet Sterling has spent the last seven years in exile, longing to return to Burleigh House. One of the six great houses of England, Burleigh’s magic always kept the countryside well. And as a child, this magic kept Violet happy, draping her in flowers while she slept, fashioning secret hiding places for her, and lighting fires on the coldest nights to keep her warm.

Everything shattered, though, when her father committed high treason trying to free Burleigh from the king’s oppressive control. He was killed, and Vi was forced into hiding.

When she’s given a chance to go back, she discovers Burleigh has run wild with grief. Vines and briars are crumbling the walls. Magic that once enriched the surrounding countryside has turned dark and deadly, twisting lush blooms into thorns, poisoning livestock and destroying crops. Burleigh’s very soul is crying out in pain.

Vi would do anything to help, and soon she finds herself walking the same deadly path as her father all those years before. Vi must decide how far she’s willing to go to save her house—before her house destroys everything she’s ever known.

This wasn’t even on my radar until ALA, and I was sold when my friends said it was a mix between Lara Croft and The Da Vinci Code. So, of course I grabbed it!

Eleven years ago, Hannah Hawkins’ parents disappeared while traveling abroad. Presumed dead, Hannah and her uncle are shocked when a letter from her mom arrives right after Hannah’s sixteenth birthday. By piecing together cryptic hints from the note and other clues left behind, Hannah realizes her parents disappeared while trying to find the mysterious Code of Enoch. An artifact they believed could hold the key to curing disease—or creating it—Hannah’s parents had been determined to destroy the Code, no matter the cost. Now with the help of her uncle, her best friend, and another cute but not entirely trust-worthy guy, Hannah sets out to discover what happened to her parents and if the Code of Enoch is real.

I saw this at ALA and knew I had to grab it. Uglies was probably one of the very first YA books I read, back before YA was really the thing it is now, and I absolutely loved it. I read Imposters last year and really enjoyed it, so I’m really excited for this second installment.

When the world sees Frey, they think they see her twin sister Rafi. Frey was raised to be Rafi’s double, and now she’s taken on the role . . . without anyone else knowing.

Her goal? To destroy the forces that created her.

But with the world watching and a rebellion rising, Frey is forced into a detour. Suddenly she is stranded on her own in Paz, a city where many of the citizens attempt to regulate their emotions through an interface on their arms. Paz is an easy place to get lost . . . and also an easy place to lose yourself.

As the city comes under a catastrophic attack, Frey must leave the shadows and enter the chaos of warfare – because there is no other way for her to find her missing sister and have her revenge against her murderous father.

I was able to read the first book in this duology early last year, and I enjoyed it. It wasn’t a favorite, but I definitely liked it enough to see how the story comes to a close. Hopefully I’ll get to read it before release!

Alchemy student turned necromancer Nedra Brysstain has made a life-changing decision to embrace the darkness–but can the boy who loves her bring her back to the light before she pays the ultimate price?

Lunar Island is trying to heal. The necromantic plague that ravaged the land has been eradicated, and Emperor Auguste, the young and charming leader of the Allyrian Empire, has a plan: rid the island of necromancy once and for all. Though Greggori “Grey” Astor wants what’s best for his people, he knows that allying himself with Auguste threatens the one person he loves most: necromancer Nedra Brysstain. Feeling like he already failed to save Nedra once, Grey becomes determined to help the Emperor rebuild Lunar Island while still keeping Nedra safe from harm.

Back at the quarantine hospital, Nedra’s army of revenants are growing increasingly inhuman by the day. Wracked with guilt for imprisoning their souls, Nedra vows to discover a way to free the dead while still keeping her sister by her side.

But, still reeling from the trauma of the plague, the people of Lunar Island are looking for someone to blame, and Grey can only protect Nedra for so long. And when Nedra and Grey are thrust into a battle with an even more terrifying adversary, Nedra will be pushed to the darkest depths of her necromantic powers. But can Grey let her go that far?
