Author Spotlight: Audrey Grey

I know, I know.

I’m recommending a lot of authors and a lot of books, but for good reason.

I stumbled upon Audrey’s books when I saw a post about Our Dark Stars, which she co-wrote with author Krystal Wade. I fell in love with that book, so I went looking for more.

Suddenly I was seeing Oath Taker – the first book in the Kingdom of Runes Series everywhere, and I knew I had to pick it up. It was marketed as “for fans of Sarah J. Maas” so you know that I needed it.

So, I bought a copy.

I read it…well, more like, inhaled it.

And now I wait anxiously and impatiently for her to release books.

At this point, I’ve read almost everything she’s written, and I honestly can’t get enough. The only series I’m still behind on – but I have read the first book – is the Shadow Fall series. And I don’t have a good excuse as to why I haven’t finished it yet.

I legit cannot recommend her books enough – especially the Kingdom of Runes series. Evermore Academy is also very good – so if you’re looking for fantasy reads, those are great options. If you’re looking for more of a science fiction read, then either Our Dark Stars or the Shadow Fall series – you won’t be disappointed.

Now, let me introduce you to the first books in all these series – Continue reading “Author Spotlight: Audrey Grey”

Books That Hit My Radar #17

I’ve been scrolling through Goodreads and Amazon.

You know those little “if you like this, you’ll like this” sections.

I’ve also been spending too much time on BookTok and some new books have come to my attention.

I’ve bought quite a few new e-books doing this and honestly, I’m not mad about it.

I’m very much in an indie/self-pub, spicy, (high)fantasy, paranormal mood. So, if I see a book with a cover I like, and then read a synopsis I like, the chances of me just spontaneously buying the e-book is high.

The Cursed Crown has been on my radar for a while, ever since I first stumbled upon it. It wasn’t out at the time, and I had a web tab open on my phone, but I think I accidentally deleted it. So, when I saw it on Amazon as I was scrolling for books, I immediately bought it. Now I just need to read it.

BookTok recommend the Zodiac Academy series – like dark Harry Potter and just really good. I’m sure people who have actually read the books will describe them much better, but honestly… “This is a full-length medium burn novel that is the first in a university-age academy series. Expect forbidden love and bully romance with mature content suitable for upper YA readers and onwards.” Sign me up.

A friend started reading/listening to this and sent me some audio bits…

I mean, it’s an Aladdin retelling, but the spice is between Jafar and Jasmine. Legit, that’s all I know, but I’m hella intrigued and I will be definitely checking this one out.

Let me know if you’ve read any of these, or plan on checking them out!

The Cursed Crown (The Darker Woods #1) – May Sage & Alexi Blake

No one was ever born less suited to ruling than Rissa, the thorn of the seelie realm—a half-fae so wild she’s spent the better part of a hundred years in the woods.

For all her flaws, she’s the last of the high court bloodline, and the southern king seems to think that’s reason enough to slap a crown on her feathered head. He needs her to unify the seelie forces. She needs him to forget about that nonsense.

In an effort to aid her people without condemning herself to a lifetime of misery, she sets off on a journey to find the one person with a stronger claim to the throne than hers: the cursed prince.

Sealed in the mountains of the Wilderness, under many spells, the heir of the first seelie queen is the only royal strong enough to protect the fae lands from their immortal invaders.

Surviving the untamed tribes and awakening a thousand-year-old prince seem a lot easier than ruling an entire kingdom where everyone hates her very nature.

And her choices won’t come without consequences.

Zodiac Academy: The Awakening (Supernatural Beasts and Bullies #1) – Caroline Peckham & Susanne Valenti

You have been selected to attend Zodiac Academy, where your star sign defines your destiny.
If you’re one of the Fae, elemental magic is in your blood. And apparently it’s in ours. As twins born in the month of Gemini, we’re a rare breed even in this academy of supernatural a-holes.

Changelings were outlawed hundreds of years ago but I guess our birth parents didn’t get the memo. Which means we’re totally unprepared for the ruthless world of Fae.

Air. Fire. Water. Earth.

No one has ever harnessed all four of them, until we arrived. And it hasn’t made us any friends so far.
As the rarest Elementals ever known, we’re already a threat to the four celestial heirs; the popular, vindictive bullies who happen to be some of the hottest guys we’ve ever seen. It doesn’t help that they’re the most dangerous beasts in the Academy. And probably on earth too.

Our fates are intertwined, but they want us gone. They’ve only got until the lunar eclipse to force us out and they’ll stop at nothing to succeed.

We never knew we had a birthright to live up to but now that we do, we intend to claim our throne.
We can’t expect any help from the faculty when it comes to defending ourselves. So if the dragon shifters want some target practice, the werewolves want someone to hunt or the vampires fancy a snack then we have to be ready. But we’ve been looking after each other for a long time and fighting back is in our blood.

Today’s horoscope: totally screwed.

Desperate Measures (Wicked Villains #1) – Katee Robert

My Savior… Or My Ruin?

One night, and my entire life went up in flames. All because of him. Jafar. As my world burned down around me, he offered me a choice. Walk away with nothing but my freedom… Or rise to his challenge and win my fortune back.

I bargained.
I lost.

Now Jafar owns me, and even as my mind rails against his rules, my body loves the punishments he deals out when I break them.

But a gilded cage is still a prison, I’ll do anything to obtain my freedom.
Even betray the man I’m falling for.

Books That Hit My Radar #16

I have more recs for you!

All three of these books are sitting on my Kindle desperately begging for me to read them. I’m in a very, high fantasy, spicy/steamy mood and I’m really hoping that these all deliver. I totally blame A Court of Silver Flames and A Touch of Darkness for my current reading wants.

Just give me a tragic character dealing with shit terribly, a love interest who may or may not be morally grey, maybe a bit of an asshole, but when they’re fated to be together, no one had better get in their way.

That’s all I want. I just want high fantasy, escapism, with hot supernatural/fantastical beings who are too sexy for their own good.

I’m currently reading Rejected – since a fellow blogger recommended it. I inhaled the first ten chapters and then was annoyed I had to stop to shower. Now I’m trying not to blow through writing this blog post so I can get back to reading.

Taken just sounds like exactly the kind of book I want to get lost in. Fae, a dangerous tournament, magic and what looks like to be enemies to lovers. I just want to pasue life and just read all these books – and there’s a whole series for this, so…

I’ve read quite a bit of Sylvia Mercedes’ books over the last couple months, and I’m lowkey kind of obsessed. The Moonfire Bride is the myth of Hades & Persephone meets Eros & Psyche and in my delving into all books Hades & Persephone – I really want to read this.

So, check these books out, and let me know if you’re adding them to your TBR, or if you’ve already had a chance to read them!

Rejected (Shadow Beast Shifters #1) – Jaymin Eve

My father made a terrible mistake. One I’m left paying for.

As a wolf shifter growing up in a strong pack, I should be living my best life. But after my father tried to kill the alpha, I’m labeled an outcast, traitor, less than dirt.

When I can’t take pack life any longer, I run, but apparently they don’t like losing their punching bag. Torin, the alpha’s son, drags me back before my first shift… a shift that will reveal my true mate.

I never could have predicted who mine would be, but the moment my wolf looks upon him, I’m filled with hope for a brighter future.

After all, no one ever rejects their true mate, right?
Wrong. Very wrong.

When the wolves attack, my soul screams for vengeance, and somehow I touch the shadow world. Somehow I bring him to our lands.

The Shadow Beast. Our shifter god. The devil himself.

Turns out being rejected by my mate was only the beginning.

Taken (The Coldest Fae #1) – Katerina Martinez

In Arcadia, winter has no heart.

I make magic dresses for a living. I’m not rich or pretty enough to wear them, but I love what I do, working out of my family’s shop on Carnaby Street in London—until the fae show up.

It’s a straight-up kidnapping, and before I know it, I’m brought to this wintry place of cold hearts and beautiful nightmares, but that’s not the worst part.

The worst part is, they think I’m fae, and I’m supposed to participate in some competition against a host of other women who have been training their whole lives for this. The prize? The winner is to marry the Prince.

On the surface that sounds almost like a fairytale, only this competition is brutal and bloody, and the Prince is the jerk that kidnapped me. I can’t get too close to him or he’ll know I’m not fae, and then I’m dead. But I want to get close to him. His body burns with the fire of a cold star, and I’m drawn to him.

I need to fight the pull and survive long enough to find a way out of here, but these winter fae won’t make that easy.

The Moonfire Bride (Of Candlelight and Shadows #1) – Sylvia Mercedes

Hers is a life without magic or romance. Until the night he whispers her name.

For years, Valera has worked weary hours as a seamstress just to keep food on the table. She would give her all to protect her little sister from the cruelties of the world . . . and the tantalizing lure of the fae forest. One day, she fears, the fae will spirit her sister away, and how can Valera hope to stop them?

Then the fae come. Not for her sister . . . but for her.

Trapped in a magnificent palace far from her own world, Valera finds herself the unwilling bride of an enigmatic fae lord. He claims he won’t harm her and vows to return her home after a year and a day if she honors one rule: she must never see his face.

Determined to return to her sister at all costs, Valera struggles to unravel the mystery of her so-called husband. Why does he so desperately need a wife? And why her specifically? Torn between love, duty, and the unexpected freedom she finds in this strange new world, Valera must fight to find her place.

But will a burgeoning passion for the unseen figure in the shadows be her undoing?

3 Books to Hit My Radar Pt. 15

It’s been a hot minute since I’ve thrown some book recommendations at you, so here you go!

I stumbled upon all of these, whether just scrolling through social media, or by actual targeted ads – but I’m not complaining.

Shield & Sorrow sounds amazing and I can’t wait for more information, and to have such pretty book on my shelves.

Golden Curse sounds like a really interesting take on Rapunzel and I need more Rapunzel adaptations in my life.

And who doesn’t love a new BATB adaptation? I know I do and can honestly never seem to get enough. Continue reading “3 Books to Hit My Radar Pt. 15”

Single Shelf Tour #3

Today we’re taking a look at the first of 3 contemporary shelves. This one is only YA contemporaries, while the other two have a mix of NA/YA contemporary books. This shelf also happens to house all of my top favorites – minus books written by Brigid Kemmerer and Jennifer L. Armentrout. Their contemporary books are housed with the rest of their books.

But this is a fun shelf, full of really fun books. There are a few that I haven’t had a chance to read yet, but I plan on doing so soon.

I can’t explain when or why I’ve fallen back in love with YA Contemporary books, but I’m so glad I did. For the most part, I’ll really only pick them up if they’re light and fluffy. I’m sure I’ve said this before on this blog, but I read to escape and while I’m sure I’m missing out on some topic heavy contemporary reads, but they rarely hold my interest. 3 Books to Hit My Radar Pt.14

For a while there, my social media platforms stopped showing me book ads, but they’re back and I’ve stumbled across three new books!

I think the covers are gorgeous and these books sound really good. I’m really excited for Starlight – it sounds so amazing and that cover! Make sure you add it on Goodreads. Into Darkness sounds really promising and I might’ve just gone and bought it. A Dance with Shadows kind of seems like a unique take on the 12 Dancing Princess, but with a dark twist. I just stumbled across this one, and between the cover and synopsis – I knew I wanted to read it and share it with y’all.

And that goes with all of these books! I think they should all be on your radars.

So, check them out and let me know what you think! Continue reading “3 Books to Hit My Radar Pt.14”

3 New Releases I’m Super Excited About!

So, all my book mail decided to show up yesterday when I wasn’t expecting it. I’m not complaining! I’m thrilled that these books arrived – and I can’t wait to dive into them.

And because I’m so excited for these books, I just wanted to do a little appreciation post for them!

Each of these books is the second in a series by 3 new to me (last year) authors who I kind of just fell in love with.

Y’all know how much I love hyping authors and their books, so of course I had to.

So, without further ado…

I have some more new to me books to share with y’all!

I already bought Pawn, because look at that cover – it’s eye-catching. And I’m definitely going to be buying Crown of Secrets and Gild once I get paid on Friday.

Finding new books to read is like a double-edged sword – really exciting and the desire to read is strong, but then life gets in the way and you can’t read them when you want to.

Regardless these are definitely going onto my TBR and bumping up a few spaces. Fingers crossed that I can get to them soon, but in the meantime – check them out and tell me what you think! Continue reading “Books That Hit My Radar #13”

3 Books That Hit My Radar Pt. 12

New year, new books!

Yep, I’m carrying this series into the new year! I love it and I love finding new books to shove at y’all. If I’m going to turn into a manic with the One-Clicking, the least I can do is drag you into the chaos with me!

I’m excited for these books and I can’t wait to read them. I either bough, pre-ordered or joined an ARC team for all of these. That means I have copies/copies are on their way to me for each of these books. It also means that I’m seriously cursing work right now for keeping me somewhat busy and unable to dive into these whenever I want – which is usually in the middle of the workday.

It’s an inconvenience, but anyways, check out these books and tell me if you’re excited for them in the comments! Continue reading “3 Books That Hit My Radar Pt. 12”

3 Books That Hit My Radar Pt. 11

Well, it’s December 23rd so consider this a last-minute recommendation post featuring some books you could buy the avid reader in your life.

I initially had another post planned, but there just weren’t enough hours in the day yesterday and by the time I sat down to do blog post, I could barely stay awake.

But that’s okay! Because these books caught my eye and I felt the need to share them with you. I’m also thinking about doing a Giveaway where I gift a handful of people an e-book off any one of these radar posts. So, let me know if that’s something that might interest you and stay tuned. It’s the season of giving and I’ve been wanting to do a Giveaway for a while now, and I can’t think of anything better than gifting copies of some of these books!

With all that being said, let’s check out these books! Continue reading “3 Books That Hit My Radar Pt. 11”
