I’m not really sure how we’re already at the end of August – time in 2020 has been so weird.

Now that I’m back from my two separate weeks at the beach, I’m ready for Fall. I don’t want to lose my tan, but I’m ready for jeans, chunky sweaters and boots. I’m also ready to be able to drink hot coffee without sweating, and for the humidity to break here in Maryland. I’m ready for cooler weather, and since we’ll still be stuck inside our house, I’m going to exist with all of these things – sweaters, hot coffee, books and shows.

How is it just about the end of another month? Somehow simultaneously 2020 is dragging and flying by.

the last airbender GIFs - Primo GIF - Latest Animated GIFsAnyways, we’re here once again and it’s probably not surprised that Avatar: The Last Airbender has taken over my life again. 2020 is shaping up to be the year of revivals. New Stephenie Meyer, new Suzanne Collins, and now new J.K. Rowling…

Can I get a revival of Winx Club? A (good) revival of Stargate? Who knows, 2020 isn’t over yet. My fingers are crossed.

Everything I’ve read and watching this month has been pretty solid, with a few exceptions.

The Court of Miracles – Kester Grant

I’ve only just started this, so I don’t have any opinions yet. I’m really excited for this and I have a feeling I’m going to love it.

 My SF WIP Destiny

I’m finally diving back into revisions full speed, so I’ve been rereading the last full draft of my WIP for a refresher. I still love this story so much.

Avatar: The Last Airbender (Netflix)

I’m sure this surprises no one, but I’m watching this just like everyone else. I just finished the episodes were the Fire Nation attacked the Northern Water Tribe. I’m really trying to not speed through it and savor it. I still love it.

My Brilliant Friend (HBO)

I can’t even begin to describe what went on in season 2. So much happened, and now I have to wait who knows how long for season 3. If my dad hadn’t decided to start watching this, I doubt I would have ever chosen it myself, but it drags you in and you get so invested. So much drama…so much stupidity. The things some of these characters do things that just make you roll your eyes and make you yell at the screen.

The 100 (Live TV)

I’m such trash for this show and I’m thrilled it’s finally back on tv. If you havent watched this show yet, it’s legit the perfect binge show. It sucks you in. It cracks me up that in 7 seasons, people haven’t learned to not piss Clarke off. They push her buttons and then are shocked when she explodes. I can’t wait to see how this final season plays out.

What are you currently reading or watching?

I sat down to write this post, and my mind just went blank. I’m exhausted.

Girl Reading GIFs - Get the best GIF on GIPHY

I’ve been spending a lot more time reading, than actively watching anything, but beyond that, Animal Crossing: New Horizons eats a lot of time. I also have like zero drive to do anything productive. I’m even starting to hit this point where books are starting to feel a bit like a chore, but blogging has been my constant through the whole COVID mess, so I don’t want to give it up. I’m also really enjoying the books I’ve been reading. I think it’s just mainly this book I’m currently reading. I’m not super invested and I don’t know if there’s going to be a love interest, and I’m just not sure.

I’ve also fallen down a “kiddie” show rabbit hole, but I don’t give a damn, the show is addicting and I’m way too invested.

Days have started to seriously blur together, and I need life to resume. I’m starting to feel cooped and caged and I need to be able to go out and do things.

Anyways, let’s jump into the post.

sunshieldSunshield – Emily B. Martin

I requested this on NetGalley months ago, and I’m trying to figure out if I read the synopsis at all before requesting. Whatever intrigue I felt when I made the request, I don’t know where it went. I’m roughly 20% into the book, and I’m bored. I keep clicking out of my kindle app to open other apps. It’s making reading slow. Also, this is a dense book, I don’t fully understand the world, and I think it might be more of a political fantasy, and that’s not really my thing. I also feel no connection to any of the POVs, and I think that I already know how (arguably the main POV) is connected. But there’s no strong desire making me desperate to find out if I’m right or not. I’m definitely going to try and power through it, in the hopes that it gets better, but I don’t want to make any promises.

I thought about listing everything I’m currently watching, but really, there are only 2 shows that I’m watching with any consistency.

Chat Noir Ladybug GIF - Find & Share on GIPHY Miraculous: Tales of Ladybug and Cat Noir (Netflix)

Don’t ask me what made me start watching this. Blame COVID and the need to turn my brain off. But I’m hooked. It’s weirdly addicting and I’m totally here for the conflict? I do wish the stakes were a tad higher, and for maybe the good guys to not win every battle, but it’s a Disney show meant for much younger kids, so I get it. I don’t know what I’m going to do when I run out of episodes.

the neapolitan novels | TumblrMy Brilliant Friend (HBO Go)

My dad started this, thinking it was going to have Godfather vibes…what he didn’t realize that it’s a foreign show, with English subtitles. It’s also incredibly captivating. Like, you can’t stop watching. It’s set in Italy, in a town outside Naples in ~1950. Women are still very much second-class citizens and treated as property, and the story follows two young girls, both incredibly smart, as they grow up and learn to navigate the world. One is very much a rule follower and the other isn’t. We’ve blown through season 1 and now are onto season 2, and you legit have no idea what to expect in each episode. It’s based off a book with the same name.

And as a little bonus, here’s what I’ve been listening to –

img_9075These are all a part of my SF WIP playlist:

Beyond the View – Chance Peña

Up, Up & Away – Chance Peña

Vanish – VG LUCAS

Time’s Running Out – VG LUCAS

Shipyards – The Lake Poets

Symmetry (Dark Version) – SYML

(Latest Purchase)

img_9072The Prince of Egypt (Original Cast Recording)

This is the soundtrack for the new West End production, and I need the world to open back up so I can go to London and see this show. The soundtrack is phenomenal. It’s the movie, but with a tad more, and I’m sure the show is visually gorgeous.

Okay, that’s it! I’m exhausted and I might actually get in bed before 1AM tonight! Hope you all are staying safe and sane!

What are you currently reading, watching, or even listening to?

Currently Reading & Watching #12

Uh, so, I binge read an entire book just now.

I chose to finish the book, before writing this blog post.

Probably should have paused the book, because now this post goes live in like 5 hours, and I’m really only just getting started.

At least it’s a shorter post.

I won’t go into too much detail about the book, since I’m going to mention it in a second and I’ll have a full review up next week, but I will say that I’ve already bought book 2. Thank goodness for ebooks. I totally should read something else that’s actually on my TBR, but I’m totally diving into book 2 later today…tomorrow?…when it’s daylight.

Fated (The Will of Yggdrasil #1) – Sara C. Roethle

This is the one I just finished, and while it wasn’t the best book I’ve ever read, I thoroughly enjoyed it and couldn’t put it down. Obviously, since I binged it. I read so much anymore – not that I’m complaining – but often I find that I don’t enjoy the book or the act of reading.

Okay, that came out wrong.

I enjoy the books, but I have the critical part of my brain on – I have to if I’m going to review. They also tend to be very expansive books that you have to pay attention to. Then there are books like this one that I don’t need to necessarily pay attention because I can easily guess the plot and what might happen, so I can just turn my brain of and enjoy it and just the act of reading.

Is this making any sense?

If not, I can talk more about the book in the full review coming next week…or maybe in a separate post.

Schitt’s Creek (Netflix)

Twitter made me do it. I’m enjoying it, a lot. There are moments where I find the whole cast annoying and overwhelming, and I don’t think I’d like any of them in real life. But the writing is pretty good, and it’s oddly relatable in a sense. I’m glad I started it, but I’m not happy that I’m already on season 4.

Grey’s Anatomy (Live TV)

I’m pissed at how they’re handling Karev’s storyline. Like actually angry. It just feels dirty and wrong and I’m pissed. It’s making the show unenjoyable. I’m still going to watch it, because I’m trash, but ugh. Also, DeLuca…just ugh all around.

Station 19 (Live TV)

Legit the only reason I’m watching this show each week, because they’ve decided to do this season…half of the season as constant joint episodes. Like every single episode is a crossover. Maybe not the whole cast, but enough people show up in each, from both shows, you kind of have to watch both to get the whole episode. On one hand it’s brilliant, on the other hand it’s freaking annoying as hell.

The Walking Dead (Live TV)

Negan is making some questionable choices and I’m not happy. I’m no longer a fan of Carol and Daryl needs a freaking hug…and maybe a beer.

Zoey’s Extraordinary Playlist (Live TV)

I started this last week on a whim and didn’t have anything else to watch besides YouTube videos. I’m a sucker for musical anything, so this is right up my alley. I love that it’s like a rom com, lighthearted, but has some more serious notes and emotional weight. I’m really enjoying this, and I can’t wait for the next episode.

Currently Reading & Watching #10

img_6842I’ve spent the last two weeks either immersed in book after book, or neck deep in Grey’s Anatomy and various other shows. Despite it being the holidays and the time of the year that I always love and anticipate, it’s hard this year. Not to be a total downer, but it’s been 13 days since we had to put my dog down. I haven’t really talked about it on here, because it’s hard. It hurts and I don’t know how to talk about it.

In some ways it’s felt like an eternity already, but in others it feels like no time at all. It weird how our lives snapped right into this new normal, almost as if he was never here…except his toys are still piled in the corner, his beds are still tucked places and his leash is sitting by the front door.

There are reminders of him everywhere.

Last week a delivery man rang my doorbell and had me sign for a package. It wasn’t until he put the box in my hands that I realized what – who – it was. My dog was home again. That day was hard. Very hard. I know he’s not in pain and in a better place now, but to keep my mind occupied, I’ve been ingesting stories and shows and honestly, burning myself out quite a bit.

I think about my dog and I cry. And I feel like I’ve done nothing but cry lately, and I’m sick of it. It doesn’t make me feel better…so I read. I watch shows. I occupy my mind.

Which leads me into this post – well, the intended part of this post – I’ve watched so much Netflix/Prime/Disney+ recently. My productivity is down the drain. But anyways, let’s check out what I’ve been reading and watching.

Wardens of Eternity – Courtney Moulton

I’m struggling to get into this and I’m not entirely sure why. I’m going to try reading a bit more of it to see if it maybe, finally grabs me, but if it doesn’t happen by 100 pages (if I make it that far tbh) then sadly, it’ll be another DNF. I really want to give it a fair shot because I loved Angelfire (that whole trilogy) and I want to like this.

*I read a lot more books – but you’ll have to wait for my wrap up post to find out what they were.

(+ 1 movie)

Grey’s Anatomy (Netflix)

Yep, neck deep. So much has happened – the plane crash, mainly. Also, Lexi and Mark’s deaths. I’ll forever be bitter about how they ended up. I saw on Facebook, a post about how someone suggested they do another “What If” episode where Mark and Lexi don’t die, and everything was how it should’ve been. But then I remember the whole point of the “What If” episode was to just point out that we’re going to end up where we’re supposed to be no matter what.

Karev is still my favorite character out of the whole series.

Marvelous Mrs. Maisel (Prime)

Funny story, I watched the first two episodes of Season 2 (I have no idea why my Prime account suggested S2 to me – I’ve never watched any of the show, and I wasn’t paying attention). I also didn’t know I’d watched S2 until I was telling my friend I’d started it and she looked at me funny and then told me I was watching S2. I liked what I saw, and I’m slowly working my way through it. It’s kind of back burner for now.

Black Summer (Netflix)

The first 7 episodes of this were really good. The way it was filmed reminded me of Lost and I really enjoyed that. I also enjoyed the fresh take on Zombies. These are not your Walking Dead Walkers. These things are smart, actual predators and vicious as hell. The final episode – with no news on whether or not there’s going to be a second season was raging inducing and only 20 minutes (to the first 7 episodes 40-minute episodes) and I hated it. But overall, the show is definitely worth checking out.

V Wars (Netflix)

Ian Sommerhalder. Need I say more?

I’m all down for a sort of dystopian vampire show – which funnily features Damon Salvatore sans vampire-ness. I’m not very far into it, but it seems like it might be a decent show. I’ve kind of dragged my mother into watching it with me, so I’ve only been able to watch it with her and we’ve been a bit busy with the holidays, unfortunately.

Star Wars: The Rise of the Jedi

I don’t usually include movies in these posts, but this one was so anticipated I felt almost obligated.

I’ll keep this spoiler free – I liked it. As someone who can read plots pretty easily, I can see where there are some glaring issues and holes, and what the fuck moments. As a fan who simply enjoys the space movies for what they are, action movies in space and on various planets, I really enjoyed it. I’m not super hard to please when it comes to space sci-fi movies.

Though, the more I think about it, the more I’m annoyed with some of the plot choices and that definitely comes from the writer in me.

The Witcher (Netflix)

I literally just finished this, so give me a moment to scream and wail in despair that I now have to wait a year for season 2.

Why can’t whole new series just drop all at once? Feed my bingeing habits! I need to know what happens next!

I’ll admit, I started off not really sure if I was going to like it. I was confused as hell in the first episode, but by the middle of episode 2 I was hooked and less confused. I kind of binged the last five episodes this evening and that’s how we’re ending this season?? So, may questions and I cannot wait to see what happens next. Geralt is easily my favorite character and every time he “hmm’s” I chuckle. I thought the world was really interesting and the characters even more so.

I just really want season 2, right now.

Currently Reading & Watching #9

I wasn’t planning on posting this today – but I wasn’t able to finish the book I’d wanted to review. Oh well.

Image result for greys anatomy dancing gifI try to do these posts about a month a part and it’s been almost a month and I like doing these posts and sharing them with you all.

Reading-wise, I’m currently reading two very different kinds of books. One is a high fantasy while the other is Paranormal(?) I guess.

As for shows, that’s not really changed to be honest. But, let’s jump into what I’m currently reading and watching!

The Chameleon with a Sword – B. L. Logan

I’m not very far into this yet, but I’ve enjoyed what I’ve read so far. I haven’t heard much about this book, so I don’t really have any expectations. It has a solid 4 stars on Goodreads, so I’m guessing people have liked it. My goal is to finish it this week!

Every Last Breath – Jennifer L. Armentrout

This wasn’t on my TBR, but I finished book 2 and really just wanted to breeze through the final book in the trilogy. I’m really loving being back in this world with these characters. It’s been so long since I’ve read them, that I don’t actually remember a lot of what happens. So it’s kind of like reading them all for the first time again.

Grey’s Anatomy (Netflix)

Still going strong and I’m currently on season 5, and Izzy has just recently been diagnosed with cancer, Mer + Der got engaged and there’s so much drama. Though, to be honest, I’m ready for the episodes when Izzy is no longer on the show. She’s my least favorite character.

The Walking Dead (Live TV)

Give me more Negan. Also, Carol is starting to get on my nerves, and I love Daryl and Lydia’s relationship and how much he cares for her and relates to her.

Victorious (Netflix)

This probably isn’t surprising since everyone seems to be watching this since Netflix put it up.

Also, Jade is probs my least favorite character. *runs and hides*

Clare Siobhan & Kelsey (Buzzfeed Multiplayer) (YouTube)

This one is a bit different, but I’ve recently fallen down a “let me watch other’s play the Sims4” rabbit hole. It started with watching Kelsey do the “100 Baby Challenge” – which is highly addicting and there is an entire playlist with A LOT of videos and then I was being recommended other channels and started watching Clare’s. I’ve most recently fallen into her Strangerville series and I can’t stop watching. I never “play” Sims 4, I just mainly build houses and create Sim, and have never really been a fan of watching people play games. But clearly something has changed

Currently Reading & Watching #8

Image result for sims gifsI’m in a slump so this is going to be short. In the last week and a half, I have spent more time watching Netflix and playing Sims4 instead of reading. Nothing is holding my interest. I keep picking up books only to put them down not even 50 pages in.

It’s like I posted my ambitious end of the year TBR and all desire to read went out the window. And I know it’s bad when even shows aren’t working as a distraction. Sims seems to be working, since I don’t actually play Sims but just create new characters and build them houses – yes, that’s about all I do. The only problem with playing Sims again, is that I want to spend all my money on the different expansion packs and stuff packs and game packs, and I can’t right now. I want them all.

The Light at the Bottom of the World – London Shah

I couldn’t get into this. Whether it’s solely because of this slump or if it’s because it sounds super similar to another book, I read a handful of years ago, I’m not entirely sure. I’ve heard nothing but good things, but the fact that this feels very familiar and I’m in a slump, doesn’t bode well for potentially finishing this book. Fall releases have been really letting me down lately, and I’m kind of tired DNFing everything I start.

Gravemaidens – Kelly Coon

Okay, I’m starting this one tonight, and I’m trying to clear my mind so I can go in open. I’m going to forcibly ignore my slump and try to get hooked. A friend told me something vague and non-spoilery about this book, so I’m hoping the interest I have in finding out what she was referring to is enough to keep my interest.

Grey’s Anatomy (Netflix)

This is my third rewatch – don’t judge. I’m such trash for this show it’s ridiculous. Mainly I just put it on for background noise while I’m playing Sims. I just passed the Izzy+Denny plot line – which I HATE. And I’m super not a fan of Cristina and Burke’s relationship. I’m also not much of an Izzy or Cristina fan. And since Alex has become my favorite character on the show due to the newer seasons, he’s so hard to hate now.

The Walking Dead (Live TV)

So far this season has been kind of ‘meh’ but give me more Negan. He’s become my favorite part of the show, and he’s not on nearly often enough.

Supernatural (Live TV)

This is the final season, which is super bitter-sweet but so far, I’ve really enjoyed it! I’m excited to see where the show is going to go this season!

Netflix and What’s on My List

Today’s post is going to be a little random, because I wasn’t able to finish the book I was reading and wanted to post a review for today. So instead, I’m going to share with you the asinine number of movies and shows that I have saved to my Netflix List – as the title of this posts suggests.

Now, I haven’t watched everything on this list. It’s mainly so I can find things easier later…or at least, that’s what I tell myself. There is so much on it anymore, it’s easier to just search for whatever I’m looking for, rather than going through it. I also can’t bring myself to cull the list because I do want to watch these things, it’s just that I don’t want to watch them right now.

These are in particular order – just whatever order Netflix has decided to show them to me today.

Let’s get into this.

Screen Shot 2019-09-26 at 11.21.04 PM

Screen Shot 2019-09-26 at 11.21.42 PM

As you can probably tell, my viewing tastes are all across the board. Sometimes it’s because I get bored very easily and need to switch it up. Other times it’s because I go through binge periods where I just inhale stories. When I’m not reading – probably due to a slump, I’m most likely watching something. I liked having shows on in the background if I’m doing something, like cleaning, or art or cooking. I don’t necessarily watch them but listening to them is fun. It’s also something my brother does not understand, but it’s also why I might get through a show a lot faster than others.

Are there any shows/movies on My List that you have seen? Want to see? What is your go to show to play in the background while doing other things?

Currently Reading & Watching #5

Image result for reading gifsI’ve kind of lost count with how many books I’ve read in August – I have a bunch of September ARCs I’m trying to get through as quickly as possible as they pretty much all come out the first and second weeks. I still need to finish my July/August/September TBR – I’m four? Books away from that goal and have until the end of September to do that. I’ve really been enjoying the books I’ve been reading, so many 4/4.5/5 star reads, it’s fantastic. The wait for the next ones…not so much.

Serpent & Dove – Shelby Mahurin

THIS BOOK. I feel like I’ve been saying that so often lately, but honestly, the majority have been so good. I had a feeling that I was going to love this book, and I stayed up until like 3, maybe to finish it because I couldn’t put it down. I love Reid and Lou and I’m seriously dying for book 2! This comes out really soon, September 3, 2019, and you’re not going to want to miss it!

The Hidden Code – P.J Hoover

Think Indian Jones meets Lara Croft…with teens, and that’s what this book is. I’m really enjoying it, and I’m a little over half way through. Once I’m done writing this post, I’ll go back to reading. I’m a sucker for these kinds of stories and find them so exciting, and this isn’t disappointing me in the least! Out September 10, 2019, you should pick it up and follow Hannah’s journey!

Bloodwitch – Susan Dennard

Technically, I’m still reading this as it’s an audiobook on my phone, but I haven’t listened to it in about two, maybe 3 weeks. Right now, it doesn’t hold priority and I haven’t really been in the mood to listen to a book. I’m on a reading kick – and yes audiobooks count as reading, but I tend to gravitate towards them when I cannot focus on written words in a physical book, or when I’m too busy to read a physical book.

Once Upon A Time (Netflix)

This is really the only show I’m currently watching with any kind of dedication. I’ve been watching more YouTube videos lately, but I’ve also been reading heavily, and when I’m not in a reading slump, shows kind of fall to the wayside. I have had this urge to rewatch Grey’s Anatomy for the 3rd time, but I’ve not given in. I’m a sucker for the Emma Swan and Captain Hook relationship in OUAT and it makes me happy!

The Last Czars (Netflix)

I’ve seen 2 maybe 3 episodes of this? I started watching it with my mom because why not, and I’m also a sucker for history about the Romanovs. I don’t really mind the reenactment/docu series format they did the show in, and after watching what I have, I kind of want to keep my idealized and romanticized version of the Romanovs in my head. It’s definitely interesting but take it with a grain of salt – no one really knows what really happened and the show is just a researcher(s)/historian(s) take on what they think happened. It’s definitely interesting though. Though the live action/reenactments have further solidified my need for a live action Anastasia or even a show similar to The Crown…but more Anastasia and Dimirti.

Currently Reading & Watching #4

Image result for reading gifsI forgot to do one of these posts in May, so better late than never! I’m five books, almost six into July, so reading is going great, watching has kind of trickled off. This tends to happen to me, and is probably pretty relatable. I go through cycles of watching everything and reading nothing, but on the flip side, there are times where I read everything and watch nothing – there is rarely an in-between. I have a lot of reading I need to get done, so I’m kind of okay with not really having a show to sit and binge.

Anyways – here’s what I’m reading and watching!

The Girl the Sea Gave Back – Adrienne Young

I’m about 84% into this book and I had no idea that this was a sequel/companion to Sky in the Deep. I just thought it was a new fantasy by the same author. I’m definitely interested in reading the first book, but this one is proving to be kind of a let-down, unfortunately. I won’t go into too much detail since I’ll have a full review of this up shortly, but I’m not connecting with the characters or the story.

Little Fires Everywhere – Celeste Ng

I don’t want to read this book. I wouldn’t have picked this book up in the store. It’s my book club’s choice so I’m trying to force my way through it. I don’t really care for the writing style or the story in general. As of right now, it’s saving grace is that it’s just over 300 pages, so I should be able to knock it out pretty quickly if I can just sit down long enough to read it.

Becoming the Dark Prince – Kerri Maniscalco

I legit just finished this, so I’m including it. A Thomas Cresswell novella published on my birthday…happy birthday to me! I really enjoyed this all too brief look into Cresswell’s mind. I could read the entire series from his point of view. Though, this did remind me of my rage towards Wadsworth in Escaping from Houdini which wasn’t necessarily fun, but I’m super excited for Capturing the Devil and September is so far away.

Glee (Netflix)

I just finished this last night, so it’s going in this post. I never actually watched it through to the end when it was airing so this was part rewatch/watch for the first time. I really enjoyed the end of the show, thought it wrapped up in a satisfying way. I’m going to kind of miss watching it every night.

The Expanse (Prime)

I’m like episodes away from finishing this show, and just need to sit down and do it, but meh. I like the show, don’t get me wrong, but I took a break and now I’m not that invested anymore.

The 100 (Live TV)

This. Show. I hate waiting each week. I love the show and the characters, and it really is the perfect binge show to get lost in. With this current season, it’s even harder to wait because so much is happening. Also, holy slow burn relationship between Bellamy and Clarke. I don’t know if they’re endgame in the show, but dammit, I wish they would kiss at least ONE TIME.

QOTD: What are you currently reading and/or watching?
